1.2 patch for Irc2

by Bill Sorre » Thu, 05 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Speaking of "the patch". I've tried a couple times to get it to work and
haven't managed it yet. I've done the complete install, shut it down before
it could run the game, checked to make sure that all files were writeable,
and I still get the message:

"error ept0036: Old file not found. However, a file of the same
name was found. No update done since the file contents do not
        match."

This is with the version of the patch currently on the Papyrus ftp site
and the latest DOS/Win95/Mac cd version of the program. Did I make a
mistake using the prep4pat.bat and patchicr.bat files? I remember seeing
all this hashed out before but that was before I got my copy, so I didn't
make notes.

The other problem I have is with carsets. F196 and Cart96 both say "not
a valid car set". Cart95 works fine. All of this was downloaded on 9/3,
so it is the latest stuff available that I know of.

Thanks all for any help.
Bill

The problem with the cart96 car set is that it needs to be in the
ICR2/cars/ppg96 directory. as for the other problems i don't know.

I didn't trust the whole setup for the patch.  I am assuming you did a
1.0.0 to 1.02 patch...  I renamed my original ICR2 directory and did a
completely "clean" full install.  I patched this version and carefully
started moving old files from my previous directories into their proper
home.  This seemed to work well for me.  Just don't replace any files
that are in the newly patched structure.

: The other problem I have is with carsets. F196 and Cart96 both say "not
: a valid car set". Cart95 works fine. All of this was downloaded on 9/3,

It appears that the 1.0.2 version and the Win95 version checks the
structure of the cars in the *.DAT file.  If they are not in line with
the new Paintkit templates, you will get a "not a valid car set".  I
have a complete set of 1995 and 1996 cars availabe which are updated to
the current "template".  You can find them at
http://www.teleport.com/~mcarver/indycar.htm

The ICR2 1.0.0 -> 1.0.2 patch does modify the original CARS95.DAT file
to match the new "template".

I guess it's time to confess.  I think I may have mis-spoke here.  I have
since gone back and tried to track this down.  The problem with the "not
a valid car set" may not be related to the changes in the paintkit
template.  It seems that I don't have any "old" carsets left.  The one
carset that I thought was a left-over and wouldn't load was an updated one.
However, ICR2 checks for a number of things in order to use a carset.
First the *.DAT file name must match the sub-directory name:
        \ICR2\CARS\PPG96\PPG96.DAT
Also, there must be a valid drivers.txt or drivers2.txt file in the
carset directory.  Both of the files must not be write-protected.

To verify that you have a valid carset, try loading it into the Paintkit
program.  If the program loads the cars for editing, check the
driver.txt files.  If it doesn't load the carset check that the name of
the carset matches the sub-directory name.
