Swedish Touring Car Championship 2 looks like it has finally made a welcome
appearance in the UK, and I must say, it's very good.
Now all I need are a few set-ups and I'll be happy as Larry !
Any good sites around ?

Let me know if you get the wheel to feel like a real car, will you? I have
the game and grow frustrated by the damn wheel!

Which wheel do you have ? Mine is a MS FF type and it doesn't feel too bad.
The steering is a little stiff, but I prefer that to it being loose.

Like to meet this Larry :-)
Maybe he knows the secret to enjoy STCC2.
I got it and after 3 or 4 patches it still feels, sounds and acts like i'm
in a giant vacuum-cleaner...

Can't agree with you, mate. I think the sounds are some of the best I've
heard for a racing game. All the cars have their own unique sound and as for
the feel, what's wrong with it ? The cars understeer a bit, but the physics
in general are good. Spins can be recovered if you're quick enough, and the
collision detection is spot on.
Most importantly--Online multiplayer is the BEST of any driving game I have
ever played. 4 cars, no AI, and absolutely NO lag at all ! It was like a LAN
meet. Fantastic.

You mean to say you can't beat the AI using the standard setup? ;-)

Agree with you it is a surprise hit. Everthing the TOCA series should have
been on the sim front, but wasn't.

Jan. /currently leading the STCC with "very hard" AI in my Alfa 156.

Disagree, I haven't any patches at all yet and it feels pretty good to me.

Perhaps a bit on the heavy side, but if these cars are without power
steering that might well be pretty realistic,. The force feedback (while not
GPL level) is about what one would expect from front engined, front wheel
drive cars on modern race tires. Maybe there's not enough subtlety between
grip/drift/slide, but on the whole it's pretty good, making STCC2 one of
those easy to pick up / hard to master deals. The sound and visuals, from
what I've seen from today's Super Touring Race is neigh spot on as well
(although***pit is static). Vision is limited through driver position
(quite different from you and me in the equivalent road car) and the
sequential gearbox (using straight cut gears) does produce that distinctive
whine. If that makes you think vacuum cleaner instead of immersion maybe you
should stick to single seaters.

I must admit I'm partial to the way Digital Illusions go about racing games
(absolutely loved MotorHead), so there is an amount of bias in my opinion,
but I consider STCC2 to be the best Touring Car game to date.

Just read on their site they're going to tackle the Australian tin-top scene
as well... but the game would be limited to Australia (boooo!!!! hissss!!!
;-)). Always fancied booming up the hill at Mt. Panorama in Holden.... ;-(

Jan./time to mail some friends down under...<g>

I thought Code Masters just wrapped up the license for Aussie Races...
oh well...If you want to blast around Bathurst, then check out SCGT, there
is a
privately built track that looks and feels very good...I should know..hehehe
I've watched
Bathurst on tv...:)

Jan, I'm lifting off the throttle and slowing from say, 100mph to 20 in
about a second, no braking. ALL Dig Ill games do this to my MSFF Gameport
Sidewinder. Does yours do this? If not, how did you fix it? If yours does,
how could that be realistic? I'm frustrated with their games, but I'm
probably doing something wrong (that's happening more and more..sigh)

Hmmm, it wasn't my intention to totally burn off STCC2, guess it
sounded that way though...
I have to admit that STCC2 is indeed the best touringcar game at this
moment.
Imho it's just that i believe it isn't at it's full potential.

About the sound, i've been watching the ETC race too and yes, i heard the
distinctive whining also. But i still heard the engine underneath and that's
what
i'm missing in STCC2.
All i hear is that whining, (i don't know if there's an exact word for
this...) and
if it's gone then there's more or less not much engine sound left. Tried
different
sound settings but that didn't help.

About the look and feel, maybe it's my wheel (tried it with both my Act Labs
and my LWFF) but there's a sort of annoying gap between the moment i steer
and the moment the car actually steers. The visual wheel in the car and the
car's
movement aren't in sync with my movements. I've tried several settings with
the
response curves without result. Any suggestions are welcome....

I really wish they had given a little more attention to the in-car view
also.
I think a wonderful job is done on the overall eyecandy, except for the
dashboards.

And last but not least, am i missing something, or is it simply not possible
to do a pitstop? Read the manual back and forth but no word about it.
I know you can in multiplayer, but in off-line races?

If you get a chance, check out the highlights from the last two years of
Aussie
touring cars.  If you ever hear the SCREAMING gears in the old BMW cars
that are run there...there is NO engine noise coming through when your incar
with Paul Morris...  :)
