Set-ups!!What's the big deal???

< Sorry Ralf but, you have not changed my mind that your not
< full of it. The reason for this is simple,
< You claim that everyone must spend countless hours setting up in
< the garage. (WHY ?) Well I think your wrong, if someone who has
< no idea of how to set up a car and has little time, wants to get
< setups from other people, then by all means they should.

That's why you have the default settings...  Until you tweak
them to your own satisfaction and find an 'on-the-edge' setup
that works for you, it is pretty hard for someone else to give
you a working setup unless you have the same control device and
driving style.  Oh yeah, I don't know about you but I spend
those 'countless hours' on the track, I only go to the garage
to change suspension settings...

< If you asked me to tell you how to setup your mouse in windows
< I'm NOT going to tell you, hell no it took me a lot of time & hard work and
< you'll have to earn it yourself. I don't believe most people would say
< something like that.

If it takes you a lot of time to setup a mouse in Windows, then really,
you should reconsider if you have it in you to handle the complexities
of setting up a car for ICR...

< Am I getting through now ?

Nope...

< We are talking about NASCAR & INDYCAR, computer simulations, games, for
< enjoyment remember ?

Exactly.  Part of that enjoyment (at least for me) is testing and
setting up the car.  The fast racing itself is the end result of
all that testing.

< I have seen a lot or replies from people who say " oh, we should'nt
< share setups, does not work because of driving style "

Which is true...also depends on the control device.

< Nobody really believes that ***do they ???

< and turn. Hopefully you in the groove while doing this.
< Come on this is a game, (AGAIN).

Obviously you haven't tested too much, have you?  You really
don't know what you're talking about here...  The only tracks
with a single 'groove' are ovals, and even on the big ones there
are several different lines that give fast times.  On road tracks
there are lots of ways to go fast...

< Its true that one persons setup may not be " perfect " for someone
< else but, its not because of driving style. You don't have that much
< latitude in a computer sim, period.

On the contrary, ICR has a lot of latitude.  Most of the time a
setup will be complete ***for someone else, unless he has the
same kind of control device and likes to drive the same way you
do...

< Ralf, I want to let you know I was wrong for Slamming
< you so hard, I guess I could have been a little more tactful
< about getting my point of view across.

Look, if I spend 20+ hours testing at a certain track and am
rewarded with a 'Net record, does this mean that I should release
my setup and replays, so everyone else can just hop in their cars
and get fast laptimes without the same amount of effort I put in?
I don't think so.  I'm pretty liberal with my setups, but most
of the time I just give a general direction where to start off
setting up your car.  Another more important point is the driving
technique and how you should negotiate various turns, and what
kind of speeds you should be achieving at different parts of
the track.  That's what counts.  It doesn't matter what setup
you use, as long as you have the speed.  That's why there really
isn't much sense in trading exact setups.

< If a person is on the net  ( not directed at you Ralf )
< and is NOT going to contribute in some way, share IDEAS, OPINIONS, FILES,
< ETC. and I mean give and take, then they are worthless at the very least.

I suggest you take a look at the various racing archives on the
'Net which have tons of hints, setups, maps of tracks, reviews etc...
before you start categorizing everyone who won't give you their
setup as 'worthless'...  There's a lot of info out there, including
replays of 90% of ALL the Internet records...  Go home, study them,
and come back when you've found the solutions to your setup problems.

< The success of the Internet and the enjoyment that we all receive
< from it depends on how many people are willing to share.

And also how many people are willing to surf it and find out
things for themselves, not just come whining onto a newsgroup
and asking for instant results...

< Oh, btw Ralf, your the only one who didn't like my sig

It's pretty much ASCII gibberish to me, too...
