RASCAR race schedule

by Eldre » Tue, 23 Jul 2002 00:56:56

The upcoming weeks NASCAR schedule is:
Pocono(2 races)
Indy(1 race)
Watkins Glen(2 races)
Michigan(1 race)
Bristol(2 races)

We've run all the above races at least once as shown above.  Our choices are:
1)Continue following the WC schedule anyway.  2)Take a break until
Darlington(Sept 1).
I'm NOT going to load the road conversions for N2k2, so don't ask...
Comments?  I'm leaning towards 2) right now.

What about running "other" tracks?  Just get out the "randomizer" and pick
3-4 tracks we havent run much on.

I say follow the cup schedule.  It makes it easy to determine what track
without having to wait for someone to respond to a message here.

I for one dont give a ratsa** if we follow the schedule or not....
I would much rather race on good tracks that to follow the Winston Cup thru
think and thin.

Having said that...  I'll be leaving for Brazil on Friday and will be gone
for 3 weeks.... so you guys race whatever you like :-)

RASCAR race schedule

This would be my suggestion.

Pocono (last time was with no-yellows, lets run it with yellows)

Indy (Only ran once, but its a fun track)

Martinsville (IF they have fixed the pace car bug)

Kansas (We had server problems with the last Kansas race and some of
us had to log off to allow the others to run)

Bristol (Its always fun)

Otherwise, just follow the schedule.  I realize that having to setup
the server EVERY week could start to become tedious, so if you need to
throw in a break you should feel free to do so.

I understand the older hands may feel like a break. Having just started in
RASCAR, I'm eager to keep going ;) I don't mind what tracks.

I don't have a problem with this.

The only option I have issues with is taking a break.

I agree.  No yellows positively ruined that race for several of us that got
caught up in stuff not our fault.

I agree, and if I had the bandwidth I'd happily host the dedicated
server for a week so Eldred could take a break, but unfortunatly I am
limited to 128 up, so I can't.  And since its his server, if he feels
like he needs a break...

I have 192 up, but until they increase the reliability of my Cable Modem
connection, I can't risk hosting a race.

Otherwise I'd be happy to.

Is 192 up enough for a 20 car field ?

Downstream is 1.5mbit so that should not be an issue.

RASCAR race schedule

I believe you basically need a T1 connection to reliably host a server
with the size of fields we are running in RASCAR.  Were you racing
when we did Kansas?  We were running 2 races every Sat. and Eldreds
server crashed after the first race.  We tried to take over the RAS
Open server and it worked great.... for about 12 people.  As soon as
we got around 14 or 15, everyones ping went though the roof.  I
believe he is running it on a cable modem.  There are probably quite a
few of us here with a decent extra PC sitting around that is capable
of hosting a race, but probably very few of us have access to a T1 or
greater connection (or are will to risk or jobs putting a server on
our company's connection).  Really wish I had the connection, because
I would love to have a dedicated N2002 server, but can't quite sell my
wife on the idea of a T1.

The first race at Pocono had 27 out of 50 laps run under yellow.  Pretty boring
to run around such a large track at 65 mph... :-(

I'm just getting tired of the arguing back and forth, too many caution flags,
etc.  I tried to do something that's accessible to everybody.  Jan provided the
program - thanks!  John and Phil gave it support that I wasn't expecting, and I
thank them for it.  I've also had others make suggestions.  John's ideas were
good, but I was hesitant to crack down that much.  However, I think that it's
become necessary.  I've had a lot of *other* shit go wrong recently(work, home,
life), so I haven't been very focused.  I'll be looking at rules suggestions
closer, and the races will no longer be 'open' - we'll be using an invite list.
I'll decide how long the break is sometime this week.
