The race will NOT be run at Darlington.  I don't believe that good racing is
possible there.  We'll be running at<drumroll...>

California.  And don't think that I chose it because I liked it.  I can't STAND
the effing track.   My other choices would have been Dover, Vegas, or Lowes'...
But, it's one that we haven't run recently(April), and it's one that the WC
won't run for the rest of the season.

I like Darlington, but after practicing the fixed FAST last night I
believe this is a good call.  Darlington would have had about twice as
many cautions as Bristol did.  Thanks for letting us know early in the
week.

Nothing to do with being able to pass, plenty to do with:

a) the fixed "fast" setup

b) the wallriding penalty.

The pair combined would no doubt make for a disastrous race.  I
haven't run California for an age - maybe not even since N4.  I seem
to remember the default fast setup there being extremely loose on
corner entry?  At least it's wide...

I tried to put a few laps in at Darlington last night and
couldn't get around the place on my own! Crazy to think how
racing in a "tight pack" should be possible there at all.

cheers,

uwe

No offense Uwe, but there are *slightly* more skilled virtual stock car
drivers out there.

Argh, offense!!! I hereby declare an endless flamewar on you.
May a thousand flies molest your underpants! Your father was a
hamster and your mother smelled of elderberries! I fart in your
general direction!

;-)

Of course, you're right. I did not even try to go fast, just
drive halfway decent laps, and even that did not work, so
that's my definition of "hard track", even though there might
be others out there more skilled than me.

Cheers,

Uwe

But you're racing with some who *aren't* as skilled.  The SOAR-LAS race there
was a disaster for me.  I couldn't stay out of the way without getting into the
wall - then the "wall-suck" got me... :-(

*I* didn't run Sears - I skipped both races.  Besides, if someone messed up at
Sears, they spin off the track.  At Darlington, they spin into the wall...then
back into the racing line.  Totally different, IMO.

If you cannot drive a setup try using the help the game gives you.

If you lift off completely into T1 this can happen with the fast setup.
Just don't lift off completely. :)

Darlington is a fun track with a great sense of speed since its so narrow,
its really not so hard as long as you know how to control your car, which is
kind of an important part of racing. Oh well. I suck at California anyway.

Ya, but Darlington IS a hard, very tight track.  If we all had ping
times of 50 and the skill of Grandy we might be able to pull it off.
It would have been a disaster for RASCAR with the wide array of
driving skills and intermittent warp.

I feel like I have pretty good car control and I usually don't put in
a lot of off-line practice for the RASCAR races, but I was planning on
practicing Darlington all week to keep from making an ass of myself.
I actually find T1 & 2 at Darlington to be pretty easy, but T3 & 4 is
where I always get into trouble and if you get into trouble it is
going to be very difficult for drivers behind you to avoid you.  Add
in the warp factor... switching to California for this weeks race was
a good call.

If you turn on the ideal racing line it tells you exactly where to go, i
always use the red building to remind myself to brake, and then on the wider
turn remember that you have to take a really high line and cut through the
end of the turn.
