I guess I timed my move to Florida right. I will not be able to race the
next few weeks. I really do appreciate the use of the server and all of the
work that you and the other RASCAR organizers have done. Take all the time
you need.

This should be water off a duck's back to you. Let us argue and rant, we'll
be back for more of the same, no matter how bad it gets. We're all online
simracers, we're all ***ed. ;-(
<takes a bow>
The open nature of the races can both be a blessing and a curse. Suppose
this Seatec guy'd had a good connection. As a rank 5 on super speedways he
could have given the top RASCAR dogs a good run for their money or wiped out
the field. Them's the chances you take with a setup like this.
Yeah, that was really good... the carset stuff, the site. Thank you
gentlemen. I'd assumed we'd just gather and sort out which cars we were
going to use from the default carset to race. It appears this is not the way
things work in online Nascar and their support was instrumental in weeding
out the dreaded "generic" cars. Great job gentlemen.
I don't know... things seem to have calmed down. Both those making the
mistake too many and those who got worked up over it most have weeded
themselves out as far as I can tell.
Ow come on... just put up some races to keep us occupied (both on Saturday
and "discussing" after), you don't have to administer, join them or read the
flames... <vwg>.
Jan.

Thanks for your Efforts eldred. Please don't let the few***it all up.
Most of us are happy, and that's what matters.
If they want rules, they can go race in leagues.

Just curious, but do you have to open any ports on the firewall for a
dedicated server?

As for the rest of you, here is what I think.
Rules require enforcement.
Enforcement requres time, money, and effort.
No enforcement, rules are useless.
Eldred is volunteer. Eldred has job too.
Me not want Eldred to volunteer any more of his resources for this.
Volunteering should be fun. Enforcement not fun. Enforcement sucks.
Eldred not happy. If Edlred not happy, then me not happy.
Therefore,***on additional rules. (except for maybe one.)
How have the offenders been handled in the past? Flames?
Lets be gentlemen. Haze the offenders. Flame the mess out of them.
Lets continue this silly season with the KISS principle.
KISS
Keep It Simple Simracer (or Stupid)
Once again, Eldred thank you for your time. If you do decide to bow out,
lets all start door knocking for someone with a T1 or DSL line that would be
willing to host a SIMPLE FREEKING FIXED SETUP RACE ON SATURDAY AT 4PM EST.
POCONO WOULD BE NICE THIS SATURDAY.
where is that nerve medicine......

Been reading the related posts here lately, & been wondering if I should commit
my 2 cents worth, when grub comes along & does it for me.
Nobody wants to be the cop, 'cept maybe JS, & I wouldn't want to give him the
satisfaction, even tho he is probably the best candidate for the job... j/k
John ;o)
In a group representing different countries, cultures, backgrounds, etc (which
is the *main* reason I like RASCAR), you will always get differing reactions &
solutions to problems, even as to whether a problem really exists.
Some want a more controlled, more disciplined environment; others want a free
for all, "run what ya brung" experience. Me? I'm somewhere in between.
Respect for each other, & a little give & take will do wonders, as has been
apparent over the last few races. The Golden Rule seems to apply here rather
well.
Grub, your idea of "flaming the offenders" has merit, tho a few attempts have
created some bad feelings here b4. Even with this warning, allow me to be the
first to embrace this method:
GRUB, GET A NEW MODEM!!!!!!!!!!!
;o)

This is a crock - international differences and varying cultures should
be left in the garage area (or paddock for you euro guys). In IGPS, we
had guys from half a dozen countries, and the only real problem we had
was with an Italian guy who thought the rules applied to everyone but
him. He was eventually ejected from the league.
The real problem is that anyone can join our races, and not everybody
has evidently read the current guidelines.
I would be happy if we didn't need additional "rules", but people seem
to forget the fact that they're racing online on a network that is
highly unreliable and varies in quality from one minute to the next, and
and they do really stupid shit on a seemingly never-ending basis.
Respect for the racing environment is more important. If we can't
create value in our races by having clean races, we can't convince
people to drive with their heads place somewhere other than their asses
in order to retain their priviledge of racing with us.
PRACTICE:
Since we're running with fixed setups, it shouldn't be tough at all to
show up with a fairly intimate knowledge of how the car works under
various conditions. I race several races offline against the AI so that
I can see what I have to do to pass on the inside, pass on the outside,
as well as be passed on the inside or outside. I know how the car acts
on new tires, and I know how the car acts on old tires.
It's not that freakin hard to spend time to learn the setup and find out
how to drive at a particular track, but I think that's one of our
biggest problems.
RESTARTS:
*** back, jump starting, chatting, picking your nose - it all
contributes to a BAD restart. It seems there's a certain number of
people that simply cannot drive at the pace speed for any longer than
maybe a second. The further back in the pack you get, the worse the yo-
yo effect is. You speed up, and then brake suddenly and slow down -
because the guy in front of you did.
---------------
My whole point is that if we want the clean racing we're all after, we
need to establish some rules for participation. We don't need to
establish new and exciting rules for when it's okay to pass, - we need
to establish rules that we can cite when we warn a driver that further
misconduct will result in a temporary suspension (or permanent
expulsion) from racing with RASCAR.
Rules should establish fair play, not artificial passing rules.

I think that pointing out peoples mistakes here probably would be the
best deterrent to bone-headed driving.
If you do it, you are just gonna have to realize that, when called
out, people are gonna argue their case and you will probably get
flamed. By next week though all *should* be forgotten.

Yes - either that or disable your firewall program. The ports you need to open
are in one of the text files. I have to admit that I haven't looked at them,
though...
