I have been playing F1 Race sim, and I was what the difference is
between this sim by Ubisoft and their Monaco Grand Prix sim? F1 runs
great on my P233 with Pure3d card, is Monaco more CPU intensive?

Monaco is the sequel, which has a new racing feature (drive cars from the
60's and 70's, I believe), and better graphics - not much else.

MGPRS2 is the, IMHO, not so different sequel, true.  They added, sort of a
half-effort at a '50's era added feature.  Not '60's or '70's.

Graphics modes up to 1024, or 1280 or so.  Looks like better textures at any
resolution.  They didn't get the FIA license, so fake teams/drivers/logos etc.
But www.mgprs2.com has all you need to fix it to the '97, '98, or '99 year in
all regards.  The handling has been changed some, actually more difficult.
The sound is a little better in that you don't get the immediate off-rev sound
when you lett-off the throttle.  But the sound doesn't yet work in replay
(they had the same prob in the first release of F1RS too!).  Frankly, again, I
don't find it all *that* different.

I download MGPRS2 last fall and fell in love with it. I couldn't wait for
it to be released so I went and bought F1RS2, returned it the next day and
waited for MGP. Although the graphics are 'similar' I believe they are MUCH
smoother in MGP. But more important is that the feel of the cars is much
improved. It's a difficult thing to put in words; but I once heard someone
describe the cars in F1RS feeling as though they're made of plywood and the
ones in MGP are made of metal - that's the best description I've heard. 2
weeks ago I found MGP bundled with Redline Racer for $39.99
Canadian...needless to say I grabbed it.

The handling of the cars in F1RS is TERRIBLE. Absolutely beyond belief
bad, and yes, there is an improvement in the sequel, but not much
else.

They even had the cheek to remain with the terrible menu options!

F1RS is a little shit (driving model). Good thing is, at Ubi notice that
when they make MGPRS2.
Playing over internet Monaco GPRS2 with GAME SERVICE make different for
everything else! I like GPL when I feel retro, and If you dont have 3d-card
only is GP2.
But 8 players over to world and no lag! Ubisoft really try and work hard
with MGPRS2.
Game Service support also Speedbusters and POD (I think). NO MORE
IP-ADRESSES, ONLY CLICK THE ICON YOUR DESKTOP AND MULTIPLAY-F1 IS READY.
Need to download 1.06 patch and GS client

Monaco GP RS2 has some improvements over it's predecessor:

-Better AI cars...they finally let pass, and they even get out of your way if
you are pretty aggressive.
-The car's physics is somewhat better, but now the cars oversteer a *LOT* as
they were pretty understeering in F1RS.
-You can change some settings from the car, while driving.
-you can play in much higher resolution without a huge frame drop.
-The sounds are much better.

There are a few more new things, like the addition of the Austrian Grand Prix
and the comeback of the Jerez Circuit.

Hope it helps,

Cheers!

>Monaco GP RS2 has some improvements over it's predecessor:

Not saying that I disagree, but I will comment further on a couple of your
points...

Yes, they now have a blue flag.  However, while something is better than
nothing, it is far from perfect.  They'll move over for a bit, usually at the
wrong point, then speed up if you don't take the (sometimes poor) passing
opportunity.  And they didn't anticipate one situation I've seen: front runner
car that ha mechanical probs.  It gets passed by a backmarker; backmarker gets
the blue flag; slows down, lets him pass; then passes the hurtin car again.
Repeat ad infinitum.

[the following are not specific to Ubisoft...]

Moreover, it's about time at least *one* sim includes recognition of the team
concept, ie no risky passes of one teammate over another.

While I'm on it, how about some recognition of order, interval, and laps
remaining in the AI decision-making process?

Power-on oversteer happens very readily, and suddenly.  But I still find the
default setups have severe neutral-throttle understeer.

Do you know if there is a way to make the steering and handling in
F1RS a little better?

I don't think I've seen EITHER of these two in the stores...  Does CompUsa
carry it?

CompUSA had F1RS for a little while. But mostly it is available
(along with the British version a MGPRS2) at Electronics
Boutique.
