Well its over and Tony George must be ticked off. Juan and Team Target
showed the IRL that they are truely second to CART, CART drivers and CART
teams. Wonder what Tony is gonna do next year to make sure another CART
team does not come out and beat up on his little league.
Loved watching every lap Juan Led, tho ABC did not show much of it, wonder
why.
Dave
Yeah. It seemed much like the WInston cup drivers competing in the
Busch races...
I noticed that too. I would not be surprised to find that ABC had strict
instructions to just showcase the IRL drivers. They did should enough
of Montoya and Vasser though IMHO.

Bull...the way I see it is Montoya and Ganassi are right now the best
combination in Open Wheel racing. The fact he won the Indy500 doesnt mean CART
is better than the IRL or that the drivers are more talented. If you think for
a while you may remember Gurerro, Bosel, Unser Jr., Lazier, Goodyear, and
Luyendyk were all succesful to varying degrees in CART before the IRL was
formed. They're not exactly dominating the IRL now are they? Now I realize
these guys werent the best in CART (though Unser Jr. was a champion) but that
doesnt mean CART a a whole is superior to the IRL. I would have to say theyre
about even in the talent pool...they have *** drivers and not so ***
drivers. So to say CART is better than IRL isnt fair...theyre totally
different types of racing. I enjoy both and dont miss CART at Indy one bit...I
still see very entertaining races there and this year was really no exception.
Just putting my 2 cents in...no offense to anyone cause your certianly entitled
to your own opinion.
Chris
True ... on its own ...
Since it is hard for any but an expert (of which I'm not) to look at a car
going down the track and say "driver A is better than B", I look at it by:
1) Seeing how a driver fairs in both
2) Does he move from one to the other when succesful (Brack) or when down and
out (Little Al).
3) Where the hot up and coming drivers choose to go (errr, F1 :-))
Hmm, open wheel, fairly similar power (okay, CART has some more), lots of
ovals (CART adds road and street courses on top of this), taken from the same
driver pool with a lot of names common to both in the past, as you mentioned.
"Totally different"? It would be hard to find many that are more similar than
that!
And you yours...
Listen, some may overstate the case, and this often causes others to just
respond in the contrary. But do you seriously believe that (1) IRL is as good
in the driver pool as CART and (2) either compares to F1? (hint on the
latter: who gets whose used up drivers, who gets whose champion who then fails
miserably?).

Yep, JV did win in both. But it is hard to do state logically: JV wins in
CART, JV wins in F1, therefore CART>F1. And I could point out how many pts
he won last year :-) It is harder to figure F1 due to the extreme differences
in the competitiveness of the cars.
It took a good time for Mario to win his championship, while Michael (at peak
form) and Zanardi (ditto) washed out. Admittedly, they might have done a lot
better if given more time. Who knows, Zanardi might get another shot?
Cheever, while he raced many years in F1, only managed 2 seconds in 132
starts. It seems that most crossovers the other way have done better,
quicker. And they seem to pick up the oval-thing quickly too.
Surprisingly accident free race. For so many cars running 500 miles at
average speeds above 200mph, that doesn't sound like a bunch of "amateurs".

Uh... Sarah pushed Lynn St. James into the wall... How is it
that you are confused about this?

Yes I agree, but it was Lynn that took the big crapola into the wall :-)
