Best OS for Auto Simulator Games

I would like to get an idea what OS is best for the games. I currently
have Win NT4 and W2k, but these are not well supported by the games, so
I will have to install 95 or 98 just to play the games, which one is
better?

Thanks,
Jerry

Don't believe it - Win98 is crap! I run 98 myself for games but I'm waiting
patiently for W2k final release so I can dump it. 95 was faster than 98,
which feels like a bloated, bit-part piece of sh*t. If I could run all games
in NT I would do so in a second. Actually, bring back DOS - few overheads,
no stupid DirectX <blah, blah>

There was some discussion in another group (games.action, I believe)
about a minimal OS that would run DX7, OpenGL and Glide games.  I'm
hoping that when Microsoft settles on an OS for their X-Box console that
they make a version of it for PCs.

It would be great to get rid of the bloat of WIN95/98/2K and just get a
bare-bones *** OS...

WIN98 is very stable for me (I can't remember the last time I had an app
(game or not) crash.  But it would be nice to know my system resources
were all being used for the game.

Some would call that OS "DreamCast", though I've never used one...
