GPL: Could not load the track.....!?!?!?!?!

by Marc Collin » Thu, 11 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Have been away and not playing GPL for a while....

It had been working perfectly since installation day.  I have loaded many of
the new graphics and have to use an alternate sound file to avoid the
scratchiness with my SB PCI 128.  As I said, all was well.

Installed the new steering wheel logos and pit board change (+ to -) about a
week ago, but did not try GPL until a few minutes ago.  I now get a message
saying "Could not load the track".  Press OK and a new message comes up
saying "Cancelling the weekend."  The game does not crash, but will not
work, either.

Being a smart fellow, I presumed the new graphics were messing something up,
so I deleted them.  The car folders and the objs folder are now "***"
again.  The same messages still appear and the game is non-functional!!

Any ideas what could be causing this?  Everything appears to be running as
it always did, except I can't get into any track.

Thanks,

Marc.

The same thing happened to me with the BRM logo file. I copied BRM.dat
from the CD-ROM and all is back to normal. My theory is that some of the
add ons don't work well together.

Thanks!!  Replacing the car files worked....but I don't understand how or
why?  It was my understanding that the additional files would be read by the
game if they were present in the folder...and if they were not, the original
file would be used (the one packed in the .dat file).  I am not aware that
placing an additional file in the folder affects the original .dat file in
any way...but it must since when the added file is removed, the game won't
run until a new copy of the .dat from the CD-ROM replaces the older one.

I sure wouldn't have guessed that--so thanks again!!

Marc.
