Need help rebuilding Grand Prix Legends

by Michael Calabre » Thu, 09 Sep 2004 06:35:25

Hello all,

I have been away from this newsgroup for a long time but I know that
this is the place that has all the answers for me.

I recently had simultaneous fatal crashes on both my home pc's and
lost all of my GPL configurations, downloads, backups etc...

I am looking for the best websites that can provide me with all the
official patches, upgrades, new graphics, tracks... I hadn't had the
need do do this in over two years because everything had been running
just fine. Now that I lost everything, I don't remember what I need
again or in what order to install it. (I wish I had written this all
down...)

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Michael

The easiest way to go (AFAIK) is to:

1. Install GPL full
2. Update to 1.2 (gpl12_us.exe)
3. Patch it for Direct3D (gpl_d3d.exe) and set core.ini for D3D
4. Run the CPUfix if your over 1.8gz (gpl_d3d.exe)
5. Run the disco fix (gpldiscofix.exe)
6. Install the GPL 2004 demo ( gpl_2004_demo.exe)
7. Copy all subfolders from the demo install to /Sierra/gpl overwring
all subfolders there with the demo's folders/files
8. Run GPL and set graphics/controls/player/team/etc.
9. Get GEM+ and install it per instructions ( GPLS_1_1_Full.exe ).
10. Have a blast with all the 65 and 67 mods, then go look for extra
tracks to add...

Now i'm sure this isn't perfect, but it's pretty much my method... If
you can find any of these files via Google/etc. let me know and I will
set up an FTP for you..

Happy racin!

Wow...what a wonderful example of a usenet community at its finest.

Nice pleasant and to the point question and a perfect polite and friendly
reply.

Compliments both :)

Sorry, was a little ham-fisted with the cut/paste...

The CPU Fix patch is gpl_cpufix_us.exe ..

Disco fix (and noCD patch) are included in the CPU fix so you don't need
this one any more.

Install the more sounds patch & any other exe hacks at this point,
before running GEM+2. If you hack the exe after you need to re-run GEM+2
to let the hack propogate to the other exe's in the 65 mod.

WOW! This is great information. I must say thanks to all for such
quick and direct responses. I'll be putting it all back together over
the next couple of days and then back to racing!

I'll let you know how it all goes. And if anyone comes across anything
else I could throw at this, please keep posting. I'll keep checking...

Thanks again,
Michael

BTW, I'm backing everything up to CD this time.
