Help with CPR please!!!

I downloaded the DirectX 5.0 driver and downloaded the trial version of
CPR.  Now, when I go to calibrate my wheel (either in CPR or in the
Control Panel) it tells me that no controllers are connected. Go figure.
Also, the control panel changed the name from Joysticks to Game
Controlers. Does anybody know what happened!  Please help       ~Bill~

The game controllers control panel applet is part of DirectX 5. I'm not
sure why it says your wheel isn't connected. Here's a trouble-shooting step
that's worked for some - remove all controllers (eg in the Game Controllers
applet, click remove & remove everything). Now add your the correct one for
your wheel (check the README.TXT file for wheel specific details).

Eric.

I had the same problem, it would only recognise my MS Pro and MS
Sidewinder, ( go figure ), but not my GP 500 wheel, Nightmare as you
can imagine.
What i did was to uninstall the new games control software it installs
as i'm sure you noticed the little joystick you were so used to has
changed. This will leave the default games controller that came with
Win 95 and you should find that will work, though i did reinstall the
software version that came with my MS Sidewinderas that's what id used
up untill now. If you need to know what version that is mail me and
i'll find out for you.
My only tip is don't upgrade to any of the new MS sticks as
they will require the new game control software, and unless they fix
the problem you will be back to where you are now.

Mine is recognizing my T2, as usual, after Directx5, but the gameplay with
it is horrendous... everything looks fine on the calibration screen, but
now, when I go to play N2 in win95 (as I will have to for nro :(   ), and
check my calibration.... I notice that the wheel will not center.... you
can turn left, come back to center, and the arrow stays about 15% left of
center.... turn right, return, the wheel is now about 15% Right of center.
needless to say, this has me all over the track. My question about removing
the "game controllers" and just going back to the original "joystick" Icon,
or the propanel... is......
will this affect anything else in Directx5 ? I know it will then show my
joystick drivers as "uncertified"... will this negatively affect anything
else ?  thanks in advance :)

I've ran ProPanel with DX 5, but thought that the new(late) joystick
routine with DX5 seemed to be very similar to ProPanel.  I uninstalled
ProPanel and am using DX5.  Is there any advantage to ProPanel that I'm
unaware of?  Also, due to the inability of the ACM card to allow the MS
Sidewinder 3d Pro to work in Digital mode, I removed that as well.  The
Soundblaster port seems to work, why would I want to reinstall the ACM?
Thanks for any input.

I can tell you from personal experience that when my ACM failed (lifetime warranty)
after 5 years of service, that the SB16 non PnP game port does not give that "fine"
feel to racing / flying sims as the ACM.
Racing GP2 was a nightmare with the SB16 game port, and I also could not get
Warcraft2 to work with midi music (wave table card) selected.
Make sure you install the Windows 95 Thrust Master driver for the game port and use
Pro Panel, as Pro Panel writes the joystick values to the registry.
Thrust Master also has a centering utility on their web site that may be useful if
you find your wheel sensitive on-centre.

Hope this helps?
