CPR Problem - Please Help

by Daniel J. Plantho » Sun, 14 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Good Day All!

I am (still) having a problem with the CPR videos, as well as error
pop-up messages stating that certain functions cannot be performed.
So instead of asking people what is wrong with my system, I am asking:

Does everyone else get the Racing School videos to work?
Did you have to change something to get them to work?
Is it possible I am missing drivers required?

Since I have gotten no response on this issue in three other posts, I
am hoping to get this message responded to, otherwise I will be forced
to ignore this feature.

Please help (pleasepleaseplease) me.

Thank you,

Daniel

I also cannot run these videos I believe it has something to do with my
browser as dean asked me which browser I used. I use IE4 full version so I
don't understand how that could be the problem. I have asked for help here
before but did not get any.

Maybe IE4 is the problem. My system hated it and after repeated crashes and
conflicts it caused with my graphics card I uninstalled it and got Netscape
Communicator 4. My problems all went away! BTW, I don't know what video card
you said you have but IE4 is incompatible with STB Velocity 128 Riva card.

CPR Problem - Please Help

by Jeff Nelso » Sun, 14 Dec 1997 04:00:00

I am having the same problem.  I am using IE3, since that is what was on
the CPR cd.  I could try IE4, but I haven't heard anything on this group
as to whether it works with CPR or not.

Also, I am getting other strange behavior.  I normally run in a higher
resolution than 640x480, but after I exit CPR and then exit Windows,
when I start up Windows again, the display is set to 640x480.  Any
ideas?

Thanks.

Hi David,

Search your system for any versions of the following file - smackw32.dll
This I have noticed is being used by various game developers as a way of
storing Video.

I had sort of a similar problem with another game and I played around with
different versions of this file and it worked.
You may also need to have the correct version of the Microsoft C Runtime
Library - msvcrt.dll, this can also cause
problems that initally are unseen.

Let me know of your findings good or bad as there is another less likely
answer but something I know has affected
video playback functionality. Let me know the version of Indeo you are
running - this is found within the control panel and multimedia section.

Best Regards

Trevor Dwyer

CPR Problem - Please Help

I have had the these problems, posted, and received an e-mail from someone
(unfortunately I deleted his e-mail yesterday so I can't give you his name)
who had the same problems and he said that you must have the right Intel
Indeo video drivers (4.3). This solution worked for him. I haven't tried
this yet. What is unusual for me is that after my Windows system crashed
and I re-installed CPR, the videos worked fine. Then a few days later they
stopped again.

I had this same problem constantly with the demo version, but I haven't had
my windows screen go to 640x480 since running with the full retail version
of CPR

THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!!!  I d/l'd the Indeo 4.3 version and now the
videos work correctly.  BTW, the videos are very interesting, as well
as high quality (like the fuzzed out billboards tho').
