Realistic street racing/driving game & force feedback wheel (UK)

I'm looking around for a realistic PC street racing game & force feedback
wheel.

Metropolis Street Racer looks good but it's only available for the
Dreamcast - is there anything similar available for the PC?

Although I like to race along with the normal game rules, I sometimes like
just to drive around for the hell of it, exploring the streets and generally
causing traffic chaos, so I'd like something with realistic streets
(preferably of the UK, which I guess means just London) and the ability to
drive several different real models of cars.

I'm also looking for a force feedback wheel & pedals.
Looking at past reviews & comments on this newsgroup, the Saitek 440 & MS
Sidewinder models seem to be the most recommended & commonly available
models in the UK (currently 60 & 70 respectively at PC World).  The
Thrustmaster Ferrari GT model is also recommended but a bit out of my budget
at 80).
Does anyone have any other recommendations?
Are there any force feedback wheels with a gearshift leaver?

Thanks in advance

If you want to drive around a while exploring streets and stuff do you think
you can find that in a sim....?

Regarding the wheel....can't go wrong with the MS FF wheel.

You can drive around London in Microsoft's Midtown Madness 2.
Buy as Aidee has pointed out, there are no realistic games of this genre. I
love the idea of driving around someplace I've been, or some place I'm
familiar with. Maybe someday it will be possible to create massive "tracks"
like that for real sim's.

The two momo wheels are probably the best wheels around, unless you want to
spend hundreds. And the new momo has a gearshift leaver in addition to the
shift paddles.

Try Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed.  It can be found for a bargain
price, has reasonably good physics and FF, and a mixture of city and
country circuits, mostly point-to-point.

Not sure of UK pricing, but if it fits in your budget you can't beat the
Logitech Momo Racing wheel (the one with the gear shift level, not the
more expensive Momo Force).

So? It's not rec.autos.RACINGONLY.simulators...

Personally, I'd like to have some street circuits done for one of the
more popular simulators around, especially of my home city. Any
suggestions on how to achieve that? Somewhere where I can read about
it?

Ain't no such thing as "realistic PC street racing game". :-)

On the PC, your choices are essentially "Driver", and "Midtown Madness
1/2".

Driver is a poor Playstation port with all the lousy menus intact (i.e.
no mouse
click on choices, just left/right/up/down/select). It is a blast with
cops chasing,
but it's not really a race game, as the cars are fixed, no tuning, and
no choices.

As for Midtown Madness, physics really sucks, I mean it. The streets are
nice
and all that, but they look REALLY blocky after a while, and the traffic
cars look
really lousy.
