Best force feedback racing game?

by sab.. » Fri, 20 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I'm looking for a good racing game (nascar, indy) that also plays
arcade style with good force feedback.

Recommendations?

Thanks!

Hmm "somehow", the only title that goes in what your asking is VIPER Racing,
by Sierra/MGI.  It's a good racing game, that also plays arcade style with
good force feedback.  There is no other alternative for your choice, IMHO.

Viper Racing (has a simplified driving mode and sim mode)
Powerslide (more arcade, but -very- cool with great FF)

Collin Mcrae Rally has some nice arcade force feedback.
The game is big fun too.

Yes there is (you better sit down). It is GPL. You can use one of
the lower powered cars, and then enable all of the help options.
*PLUS* there is that bogus arcade driving view from above [F10].
Top all of that off with the best Force Feedback racing sim and
you are all set.

Now someone please pass the smelling salts to everyone :-)

Viper Racing.

Or GPL but there is no Arcade racing mode in that really ;)

I'm personally not a great fan of the FF in CMRally. It seems to just be a
lot of (too much!) permanent rumble, with little real input from the game.

Just my opinion, mind, and it has been a while since I've tried it.....

Mike.

You're right - in fact, when I first tried it the FF was completely mad
- the wheel was juddering all over the place.

I updated the drivers for my Guillemot wheel and it got a lot better,
but it was a *huge* CPU hog - the game slowed down to a crawl as soon as
I hit anything, and anyway there was no proper modelling of FF anyway -
just rumble effects as you say.

It's still a great arcade-style racing game, but not for the FF!

You're off the planet. The ff in Colin McCrae is about as good as you get .
Have you never taken your car for a spin down a gravel road? Maybe the
wheels and their drivers that you're using are at fault. I use a MSFF wheel.
Try TOCA 2 as well. The ff is brilliant and better than GPL ff IMO (now
that'll start a fight!). See ya.Andrew   /;-))
