Game port problems with Via AC 97 and Force Feedback Wheel.

I have just discovered that my new Asus A7V133 with the Via AC 97 sound card
is incompatible with my Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel.  Is there
a way to work around this issue.  Can I get a game port to USB adapter and
still use it?

don't know what the inconpatiblity issue is...but just disable the onboard
sound and get a dedicated sound card.  The SB Lives are around 70 dollars
(US) and the there are other alternatives like the GameTheatre by (I think)
Hercules  I have the A7A266 version(with a chipset made by Ali rather than
Via) of your mb...tried to avoid known issues and have had allllll sorts of
trouble since...

Ahhhhh,  thanks for that advice.  That's a great idea.  I never thought
about that.

R U running XP?  Many gameport devices are not compatible with XP, I've not heard of a mobo that had
this problem.

I initially thought my old Gameport MSFF was incompatible with my M/Board
too, until I realised that the force feedback needs to make use of the MIDI
port and that was disabled in the BIOS by default. Turning that back on and
ensuring that the built-in Soundblaster emulation was OFF was all I needed
to do to get my wheel working quite nicely in Windows XP (at least for GPL
and SCGT).

P.S. Check that the Gameport itself is enabled in the BIOS too - it is
disabled by default on the A7V133.
