Strange question about the Microsoft FF wheel

by Craig Jone » Thu, 08 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I know this may sound a little wierd, but can any owners tell me how much
clearance the brackets that fit under the desk/table need?

I'm thinking of buying a wheel and need to know if it'll fit on to one of
those desks with the pull-out keyboard tray underneath.

Well, after a quick look at mine, it appears that the wheel, as it was intended
to be clamped, can accomodate desk/tabletops from about 1/2" thick to about 2".
Taking a closer look, it really does not appear as there is a way to get is
securely fastened to anything thicker than 2" or so.  Hope this helps -- I'm
sure others have come up against this issue, and might have some ideas to
offer.....

I have a pull out keyboard tray, the tray itself is not in the way but I
have to push the keyboard out of the way or pull it out if I want to do any
typing.

The clamping mechanism projects about 4 - 4 1/2" below the lower part of the
clamping surface.  In my case that wouldn't fit with my keyboard drawer but
that would, of course, depend on your drawer's configuration.
