A friend of mine has just got an AMD 700 with a TNT2 card, when he goes into
graphic options in GPL he can only set it to a max of 640*480. Yet the
machine and card are capable of much more, how do I get GPL to show more
than this setting?

sounds like your friend is running software mode - it can't go higher
than
640x480. Try downloading the OpenGL renderer from papy.com and try that
out.
