GPL: TNT2-Detonator Mirrors not right!

by Steve Garrot » Tue, 30 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I have a TNT2 that came with my Dell. It is using the default drivers
that Dell had on it when they sent it. I upgraded to the 1.88 Nvidia
Detonator Drivers and it made my mirrors in GPL all screwy. So I
removed the new drivers and went back to the original drivers. My
brother-in-law has a Dell almost identical to mine except he has a TNT
instead, he upgraded to the 3.53 Detonator Drivers and all is fine for
him. I tried them on mine, same mirror problem. Anyone have a solution
to the mirrors?

What I mean by screwy mirrors, is that they appear to be pointing off
to the side, and sometime when a car comes into view they might show
the car or might not. The image in the mirror will always be divided
in half horizontally and the top part is an image of something 90
degrees from the car.

Not that it is really a problem using the older drivers, except in
other games.

If your mirrors work properly with the 1.88 drivers consider yourself lucky
as most of us can't get them to work on a TNT2 card with any configuration.
There is rumor that the new 3.62 Athlon drivers are compatable and may be an
improvment, although I haven't tried them yet.

I too am having the mirror problem.  I also have a dell (600 P=III with 256 ram
and GeForce card)  I loaded the 1.2 patch and then the open gl patch.  good
frame rates with all details up (32-34) but have the same mirror problem.  HELP

Unfortunately there is no solution at the moment.  You might try the new Nvidia
3.62 "Athlon only" drivers which I hear work well on P3s with TNT2 cards. Papy
says it's a Nvidia driver problem so a change to the Nvidia drivers is our only
hope.

I had the same mirror problem, but using the NVidia 3.53 drivers, and
setting the buffer flipping mode to "Use Block Transfer" (on the OpenGL page
of the additional properties dialogue) has solved the problem.

I follow Matthew's advice and downloaded the latest driver from NVidia,
it works great! no more broken mirrors! I turned on the 32 bit color
depth as well, it could be the nice red wine I had with lunch, but GPL
looks even better than before (1024x846x32), I still get about 36 fps,
this is cool.

Which version are you using ? 2.08, 3.53, or 3.62 ?

Perhaps I can be of some help. The buffer and other settings could be
found in the Advanced Setting under your Display property, which is
accessible from the Control Panel or your Destop (Right-click,
Properties). Then you go to the Nvidia setting tabs and changes the
Buffer, Color Depth, etc.

Sorry, there's a bad thing here about the "Famous" 3.62 drivers from
AMD/nVidia !!
It doesn't work in greater resolutions then 640*480. Or else there is on both
sides of the screen a terrible f**k-up of the screen and this is not to avoid
by now.
I have the AMD Athlon500 with the GeForce256 from Asus.
Bad bad bad!! And the framerate could be a bit higher. Max. 32fps at 19
opponentcars ;-)
But only in 640mode.
So everybody please don't buy a GeForce before there are propper drivers
available if you're GPL !!! ***ed.
