TNT2, mirrors question - sorry, but help!!

by Jchar » Wed, 26 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hey all,

I really hate to ask this question since it has been asked to death, but
here goes.  I have a CL TNT2 (non-ultra)  w/ P3 and was running the nvidia
3.53 drivers with no problems - mirrors worked fine.  Well like a big dummy
I read some post somewhere about how the 3.68 drivers were the cat's meow so
I thought I would give them a whirl.  I can't seem to tell any difference in
frame rates, but  when I went to try GPL, my mirrors were screwed up again
just like the bad old days.  Any idea how to fix them or should I just go
back to 3.53.  Where would I find the 3.53 drivers?  I know older drivers
won't install over newer drivers so how would I do it?

I've asked my wife to put on her sharpest heels and give me a good kick in
the ass to save everyone else the trouble.  If it aint broke, don't fix it -
I'll just repeat this a thousand times.

Thanks in Advance,

Jcharm

I hear the trick is to turn block transfer mode on in advanced options
for the tnt in display properties/opengl

TNT2, mirrors question - sorry, but help!!

Here is an old post from a guy called Billy that may help. Say thanks to
your wife for me ;-)
Bart Westra
-----------------------------
I just got the GPL demo yesterday and after seeing how good it is, I plan on
buying the game.  There was a problem with the cars' mirrors though, which
I've learned has been a long-time issue with the tnt/tnt2 cards.  I searched
the internet for a solution and came across a message here about using the
3.53 reference drivers with the "Use Block Transfer" setting to fix the
problem, which works perfectly.  The only problem is that those drivers suck
hehe.  I wanted to know how to enable that setting with the 2.08 drivers
(the best ones imo), and discovered that this fix can be applied to any
driver version by simply changing the value of the "FlippingControl" setting
in the registry to "0".

Depending on the driver version, this setting can be found in

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\OpenGL], or

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0001\NVi
dia\OpenGL]

When doing a fresh install, the settings won't appear in the registry until
an opengl game is run once.

So just in case there are people out there who are looking for this type of
info (since the 3.53 fix is pretty recent), here it is. :)

Thanks dude, I think this will work.  Now, if I could just find a way to
stop my wife from kicking me in the ass........
