NR2003 Framerate question

by double » Wed, 09 Apr 2003 07:24:07

I am having some sort of brain-fart here with the graphics settings in

128mb.  No matter what resolution I choose (have tried 1024x768, 1280x960,
as-well-as 800x600), and no matter what graphics options I turn on or off (I
have had EVERYTHING turned off or at the low setting) and I still get about
15fps on the back stretch at Talladega during a practice session.  I have
vsync off and AA at 2x.

It just blows my mind that I can have everything turned off, or on the low
setting (still always with 42 cars showing in the front though) and my
framerate is always at around 15-20fps at Tally.  (I have tried other
tracks, but since Talladega was this past weekend, this is where I was
testing stuff.)

What am I missing?

OpenGL or d3d?  Turn off the fsaa.  What is the ingame ansio setting?

don't feel bad, i have the same problem using either
the Geforce Ti4600 or the FX Ulra or now even
with the 9800 Pro. I have tried everything to get the FPS up in the game. I
do manage to get like 80fps sitting on pit road by myself, but if I start a
race at the back with only 20 cars ahead and 5 behind its down to 28 and
coming through a tri-oval in the back 24 to 25fps which just sucks. I even
reinstalled a new copy of Windows XP professinoal. See all my previous post
about 9800 Pro

The Ti4600 card ran it better than this 9800 pro.
and the FX card was much better in Opengl,
I use D3D for the 9800, and the Ti4600..
and I use 8 on the ansio in the .ini file, none on the card
and 2x on the AA,.. and none of the bottom 3 shadow
options and no solar or track options.

P4 2.53
1gig PC800
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 3.2
Audigy Platinum2 latest drivers.
win xp pro.

Maybe try turning off "Track specular highlights" that will gain you 10-15
fps and you wont get the flicker effect :)  What monitor?  If you run 16x12
you likely are at 85hz refresh.  Maybe go to 12x8 and a higher refresh.
Turn off fast writes.  Sounds like your close.

Maybe try omegas driver.

holy cow, I just tried all the aforementioned settings, with little or no
improvement; then went into the 'sound' options, checked 3D audio, and
lowered the total sounds to '8', and now get 40-50 fps with all graphic
settings on the left side set to 'high' or 'all', and everything checked on
the right side except for 'steering wheel', 'solar effects' and all the
'shadows on cars: checkboxes (the last 3); 1600x1200x32 bit opengl; no FSAA
settings, and that one setting on '8' in the .ini file.

very strange..........

Criminey Jones!   If you find you have more vidcards than you can use,
I'll take whichever one you have to throw away.  All three of those stuff
my GF3.  :)

What sound card are you using?

I know you guys are all looking for the smoothest performance in the game,
but I have not had any problem with close in racing/passing  with a mid-20's
fps.  I am using a duron 750 processor with an Nvidea 64mb card and a crappy
old wheel.  Of course I am also very new to this and still pretty much suck
:)

NR2003 Framerate question

I'm using the onboard sound on an Abit IT7-MAX2 (non 2.0).  (I'm using this
for its optical out if you're wondering why.)

After more testing, my frame rate drops to the low 20's when setting to 10
or 12 sounds.  So, even though I have no more spotter, I'm leaving it at 8
for the time being.

I need to see if I can wrestle my Santa Cruz back from my little brother to
do more testing......
