N4 Wheel Sensitivity?

by bhy.. » Sat, 10 Feb 2001 00:25:20

During my first night of play I noticed that my wheel seems way too
sensitive.  A small nudge will send turn me way too much.  I tried
playing at Daytona, but I only get about an inch of play in each
direction.  Even with my steering ratio set at 32:1, I have very little
control over the car.

My System:

Dell Dimension
Intel P3-800 mhz
Geforce II
Act Labs Force RS Wheel

Do I need to recalibrate somewhere?  E-mail response preferred.

Well the default setup at Daytona is like that.. try playing around with
some of the setup options such as tire pressure, etc..

Also you can change the Linear Steering settings in your Options menu.

I already changed it to 100% linear.  I'll try altering the tire
pressures.  Does anyone have a good Daytona setup for N4 yet?

Try 70% Linear or something like that....

N4 Wheel Sensitivity?

The Linear does nothing for me. The car is way to sensitive to wheel
movement.  That is why I loved the JOYSTICK/KEYBOARD option of N2.  The
other option was unusable.

I switched from my Digital Pro to a Digital Pro 2 and it seems to have
helped with N4 a little.

Are you basing this on one track or all tracks?

The reason I ask is because the default setups that come for Daytona and
Dega are VERY Sensitive, but can be tweaked.

Play with the linearity setting.
On my TSW2, I ran my linearity at 60% and get good results.

2 things outside of setup will make the wheel less sensitive, decreasing
linearity from 100% (although that can make the car "pull" more) and
increasing your steering ratio.

I've got the same problem. The ratio is as "slow" as it goes at 32:1.
Using the linearity to solve this problem doesn't seem to work real
well. Once linearity is adjusted to less than 100%, the center area of
the steering arc is less sensitive but then while turning into a
corner the sensitivity shoots up at a critical point in the turn.
Naturally that causes the car to swap ends......

Maybe there is not going to be a real honest solution to this problem.
Obviously, steering using a wheel should be linear from lock to lock.
If N4 had a larger available range of ratios, that might solve the
problem. It would be nice is someone could figure out how to hack the
set up files to allow a different value to be entered.
