Help! Quillemot Ferrari FF Race Wheel & N4

by Thom j » Thu, 15 Feb 2001 22:27:14

I Need Help RAS Gurus!!
I'm having problems with my 'Quillemot Ferrari FF Race Wheel' in
Nascar 4 but never had this in Nascar 3!

I've set & reset in N4 options controller menu the linear back & forth,
slid damping from 0ms to 40ms & back, slid 'ff' strength from 20% to
100% & back, slid latency from 0ms to 20ms & back. My Windows
Gamer Controller is correctly set and working properly in my Control
Panel as I always have it for my other race sims.

1: {Most Annoying!} In "Practice" my wheel is always***ed to the
right 15-20 degrees! In Quick Race it's almost straight! Any ideas or
suggestions why?
1a: I'm using a qual setup from team-lightspeed.com but when using
the Nascar 4 setups my wheel is still***ed.

2: Daytona {the only track I've run so far} my wheel tends to waver
sloppily as I go in&out of turns 1,2 & 3,4.. I prefer a nice even tight
wheel lock when going in, through & out of all turns as when I am in
GPL-WL 10:1 here.. My N4-WL feels best at 20:1 but still feels to
'waver sloppily' in all 4 Daytona turns as if the wheel is turning ok &
then breaks loose for a second or two, then catches again. You can
really feel this in my FF wheel. This is why I prefer FF over non-FF
now!
2a: When using the Nascar 4 setups {easy, fast, quailfy} my sloppy
waver seems almost null.. Any ideas why?

3: I am using DX8.. Is there something I should put in an .ini file?

Any & all help will be appreciated!! TIA!
Cheers Thom_j.

Help! Quillemot Ferrari FF Race Wheel & N4

by Marc Collin » Thu, 15 Feb 2001 22:46:51

1) the***ing to the right is normal in N4...as it is in real life.  Read
about 25 other posts here on that topic.

2) I have the same wheel--have made the same adjustments as you searching
for something that feels right--no go.  The FFB in N4, from what I can tell
so far, is much less sophisticated that GPL.  The car feels heavier and
sloppier than a GPL car, as it should, but the FFB is weak, inconsistent
depending very heavily on steering ratio, and "slips in and out of place"
the way many people found with N3.  It seems like a beefed up N3 FFB instead
of a port from GPL.  Very disappointing so far.

I am going to wait and see whether it is addressed in an upcoming patch
before wasting too much more time fiddling.

Marc.

Help! Quillemot Ferrari FF Race Wheel & N4

by Marc Collin » Fri, 16 Feb 2001 13:40:14

Remember that in the wheel control panel the settings have to be 100%
overall forces, 0 spring, 0 damper 0 default for GPL, N4 and HN (which all
use "real" FFB).  All other games it should be 100, 100, 0, and usually 0 if
it has FFB.

Other than that we wait to see what patching brings.

Marc.
