F1RS and soundcards

Sorry to bring up old arguments, but I'm about to upgrade my machine and
as it has onboard sound that means the dear old Vibra16 must go.  Can
anyone suggest a cheap soundcard that works with F1RS (and preferably
MGP) as they apparently are rather picky. Would a SB128 PCI do?  I quite
like CL products.

Many thanks in advance,

Aaron

Nope...the SB 128 is a shit card as far as driver support goes.  Someday it
may be good....  Has horrible problems with MGPRS2 and can't play 8-bit
sampled sounds (which wrecks GPL).  The latest update (Revision 1) fixes
none of these problems.

Marc.

It's about time for mine, too...

Yes, if you look on the back of the box, the SB128PCI has full support for
F1RS, and probably MGP as well.  Great card; takes a whopping load off the
CPU (it's like a "Voodoo," but for sound!).

I have an Ensoniq AudioPCI (SBPCI64) which is just awesome
with F1RS. The 3D positional sound is awesome. You can actually
hear where the other cars are with 2 speakers. But you do have to
crank the sound up a bit :-)

Hands off that 128!!!!! Fro what I've read here people seem to *hate* that
soundcard (driver-probs). Get a SB16. It's crappy compared to the new
models, but there just ain't no better choice when it comes to "value for
money". If a game doesn't support that card, it won't support ANY other.

Thanks for all the replies.  Greg, do you know if the Ensoniq (or
something similar) is still available now they've been swallowed up by
CL?  If not looks like SB128 is out of the running, so anyone had any
experience with the Maxi Sound advertised on the back of the F1RS
manual?  Or any recommendations for a cheap, compatible card PCI
preferably.  Thanks for the help.

The AudioPCI is the same as a Creative SoundBlaster PCI 64.
Just make sure you get one with a 1370 chipset.
