> F1 in 'interesting race' shock!!  :-)

While I think this race was artificially & accidentally interesting, I
will confess that I stayed up and watched all of it. Because I work
nights I usually go to bed about 1.05pm, by which time the best bit of
the race is generally over :-)

I especially liked the bit where ITV (in the UK) went to a commercial
break just as you heard a commentator saying "Oh no!...." (Turned out to
be "just" the man on the track incident). Excellent timing, if you'd
paid for one of those adverts!

I guess it just goes to show that not only NASCAR, but any series can have
good close racing when yellow flags are flown at any/all opportunities...
Now if we can just get the F1 officials to throw yelllow flag laps at the
sight of a matchstick on the track (like they do in NASCAR) <G> then F1
will pertain the giddy heights of false immersion that NASCAR  achieves at
present. :))
All jokes aside, it was a great race and almost felt like i was watching F1
of old times again..

Cheers,
Ron

It was certainly a great race but it wasn't the first great race of the
season.  I thought Australia and Brazil were very enjoyable too.

Some of Rubens' passing moves were absolutely stunning.  Throw the dummy one
way, wait for the lead man to counter, then blast by the other way in do or
die fashion.  Pure Mansell-Senna stuff, and it could have all ended in tears
if everyone involved wasn't so professional.  Much more entertaining than
the classic "who is the best of the late brakers?" (which of course is a
talent not to be underestimated).  As they say in Monster Truck racing,
"we'll sell you the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge of it".  I was
riveted to the screen.

It was on a par with 2 weeks ago when they cut to a break half way through
Ralf's final lap. It was finished when they came back !
Good old ITV.

Silverstone still retains great fast sweepers reminisent of earlier
(greater) days, GPL style. Can you imagine F1 without it? All this
threatening talk of it not being on the calender next year is just rubish.
Bernie Ecclestone is a typical Brit, shooting British efforts in the foot,
even when things go well.

Probably the best F1 I've ever seen, but I've only been watching for 2
years.

> Ok, there CAN be passing in F1.<g>  Reubens and Kimi are making some GREAT
> moves in this race...whew!

It did make me wonder if we'll see Herr Henrie use similar tactics at
IRL races...hopping the fence brandishing "Sinners, Ye Must Repent" and
"I Repesent the Way, the Truth, and the Light...Ye Must Also Turn
Right!" banners whilst scurrying about oncoming traffic. ;-)

Only problem for Dave would be A.J. IV spotting him, and thinking, "Gee,
haven't hit one of those *yet* this year...lock on target..."

True, but those races were somewhat marred by weather, qualifying mishaps,
etc.  Silverstone was I think the first relatively clean, non-controversial
(except for a certain Scot) race this year that was really enjoyable.  I
mean, actual passing for the lead?  Unheard of!  ;o)

Obviosly that guy has never seen "The Quick and The Dead".  He almost became The Dead...

To me, bad weather makes an F1 race.  It puts some anticipation and chance
into it, which is sorely missing otherwise.

I wonder why they are not watering the tracks (during the race).

And does anybody know how well F1 handles on the snow? ;->

Yep, what a controversy - his car falls apart in his home race, then
he puts in some pretty excellent overtaking moves to fight his way
back up. Deserves a two-race ban for the overtaking alone - unheard of
antics in F1!

The only controversy I saw in the race was a certain Ferrari pushing
Alonso onto the grass at 190mph to avoid being passed. THAT annoyed
me. The F1 is trying to promote more e***ment and overtaking in F1,
and allowing that sort of behaviour to go unpunished is hardly likely
to make drivers want to overtake. It's difficult and risky enough
without letting such behaviour go uncommented.
