ICR2 Patch impressions

Downloaded and installed the patch last night - the engine light works
now, the frame rate toggle is available, etc...

HOWEVER, the car seems to handle differently and not in a good way.  The
intermittent traction bug seems to be gone, but the car seems looser
(prone to oversteer) than before.  I race most often at Nazareth and
with the patch installed both my qualifying and race setup now are way
too loose to drive at speed.  For instance, I normally qualify around
183-185 and my race setup can run consistently in the 175-178 range.
The best I was able to manage with the patch was 180 and 174 and I spun
A LOT.

By the way, this was not because of random weather, I held that
constant.

I have a few questions:

1) Am I nuts or are others experiencing this problem?  Just at Nazareth
or on other tracks as well?

2) Is this a "fix" to a known problem?  (I guess this is for someone at
Papyrus)  I thought the patch was just to fix minor problems and the
traction bug, not change the model.  I guess I would just like to know
if this was intentional or not.  I can't believe someone wouldn't have
noticed this in testing.

If this is the way the game was supposed to be all along, fine.  I guess
I'll just get on with the work of revising my setups (SOB).  If not, I
think I'll just reinstall and live with the other version.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

I only put a few laps in at Nazareth, but my car was not loose.  Maybe it
will be after a few more laps.

However, the car WAS looser at Michigan than it has been.  Normally the
car will get good bite at the front and have just enough looseness to
allow the rear wheels to "spin" during acceleration (I don't mean spin
like as in lighting them up, but spin as in a noticeable traction lose).

With The Patch, the car now has much more oversteer.  It happens
gradually, but I've lost it on occasion.  Not snap oversteer, but it does
come around at a good clip.  I don't mind dirt trackin' Michigan, but I
guess I'll be needing to tweak that setup just a bit.

Hopefully, they have fixed it the right direction.  It would appear that
the "traction bug" started out the 1st 15 minutes on a track in the
proper "weigh shift" mode and then flipped to the buggy version.  As it
was before the patch, all of my "good" Nazareth setups were WAY loose
during the 1st 15 minutes.   Or does the same problem of flip/flopped
weight that NASCAR Racing suffers now infect ICR2?

I've only tried v1.0.2 at Phoenix, and my race setup is looser now than it was
after sitting in the pits twenty minutes before racing v1.0.0.

I also tried converted Sears Point, and I'm getting more push there.  But it's
a conversion, so maybe that comparison doesn't count...

However, I'm racing in random weather at both tracks, so...

v1.0.2 might be the way the ICR2 programmers intended the traction to be.  If
you remember, the traction bug caused your car to push, then gradually the car
became loose as the bug (for lack of a better description) corrected itself.
v1.0.2 is loose now, "out of the box".

I haven't spent a lot of time using the patched ICR2, but the same bug was
fixed in MULTI and the results were pretty much the same, all your setups
are going to need work. The good news is that it should be a lot easier to
get a decent setup. I was always frustrated in both NASCAR and ICR2 because
I'd finally work out a setup I liked and the next time I pulled it out, it
would be undriveable. Now that I understand the problem, I can see why. So,
roll out the war wagon and plan on getting your fingernails dirty, but I
think it's going to be worth it.

Nick, you'll need to work with your setups to adjust them to be a bit
tighter.  The traction bug was adding push over time - which means most
people's setups (at least in NASCAR, I'm not real familiar with how the
traction bug effected Indy) had extra looseness built into them so that
they would feel pretty good after a few laps on the track.  You'll probably
be able to get back up to your old best speeds and more if you tune a bit
of the oversteer out of your existing setups.  Good luck, and sorry for the
inconvenience...
