Being a PowerMac owner, and the fact that the Mac platform has _never_ had
a real racing simulator, I've never frequented this newsgroup before.
I've been lurking for a few days or so, and I thought I'd ask some
questions now.
IndyCar 2 is going to be coming out for the PowerMac platform sometime
next month. I was wondering if you guys could give me your general
impressions regarding it's realism. There was an early alpha-like preview
released about a year ago, which I still play from time to time, but it
suffered from rather poor frame rates (9-15fps or so on my fairly high-end
machine). Rick has assured us that the graphics engine has been optimized
heavily since then, which I'm sure it has, but I was wondering what the
general consensus is on a PC platform. Is it considered fluid? Or a CPU
hog? Do you guys race with all detail on, or do you have to kill some of
the textures to get good rates? I'm sure it won't relate to the Mac
version at all, but I just wanted to get some perspective.
I've read a lot about this long-awaited patch for the PC version ICR2.
I'm certain this is a bigtime FAQ and a sore-spot here, but briefly, can
you tell me what some of the flaws were in the first release? Something
about traction modelling, but what specifically? Anything else?
I'm still kicking myself for the day I sold my two Amiga systems.
Everytime I get the urge to do some racing, I think back to World Circuit
(F1GP, whatever you want to call it) and how much fun I had with it. I
actually bought my first analog joystick and adapter just for that game.
*sniff* I hear MicroProse (or is it Spetrum Holobyte now?) has canned
any plans to do a Mac port of F1GP2. *double sniff* I guess I'll have to
hope ICR2 turns out as good as I'm expecting it to.
Thanks for any insights,
Rob
