F1RS Monaco Tunnel Blackout

Hiya gang... I have a problem where my view blacks out when going into the
Monaco tunnel.  Not just a dimming and then readjustment to simulate going
from light to no light situation... but almost pitch black.  It stays black
unless I go to the director's camera view whereupon visibility is
reinstated in all internal and external views.

I have a Pentium 200, 48mb Ram, SB16, Matrox Mystique 4mb and a Diamond
Monster 3d 4mb (i.e voodoo 1).
I have applied the v1.08 patch which has not solved the problem for me
(though I read on this group that it did fix the same problem for another
user).  I have adjusted autoexec.bat to set all gamma settings for the
Monster3D to 1.9 but that doesn't seem to make any change (nor does
adjusting the settings from the Display menu).

My Monster3D seems to always have been a little dark (for Tomb2, EF2000,
etc) and I have always played 3dfx games with the monitor at full
brightness.  This time it doesn't help.

Any suggestions?  Where is the F1RS batch file and maybe I could adjust
that....

thanks!
E-mail me directly if it is not too much trouble!

Cheers,

Try adjusting the gamma settings of your Monster3D. The reason it gets
darker is because in real life your eyes don't instantly adapt to
darkness, but in this case it shouldn't become pitch black.

Seems to be a problem with the gamma settings, and/or maybe your
monitor.

Given your brightness problem affects all your games,
Could it be your monitor?

Thanks for the replies guys...

I don't think the problem is with the monitor because it works fine in
other environments... DOS, Win95, etc.

The problem is that I cannot seem to adjust the gamma settings for the
Monster 3d.  I have tried in the
Autoexec.bat and the Contol Panel/Display/Properties/Monster3d menu and
neither seem to make any difference.

Games (like EF2000, if I recall correctly) that allowed for Gamma changes
within their own software were no problem.

Plus, I know the problem is not the monitor because when I switch to an
external director's view everything becomes
visible.  If I then return to an internal view or chase view everything is
fine.

Still puzzled.

Try adding  the following line to your Autoexec.bat

SET SST_GAMMA=#  (where # = is between 0 and 1.95).
