F1 2000 Message center?

The message center is on the steering wheel of the car, right?  I have mine set
to high, in the setup, but I have yet to see anything light up.  What are the
problems it's supposed to warn of? I've wrecked the car quite few times<EG>,
and haven't seen anything light up.  By the way, I accomplished my first roll
over about 15 minutes ago at Imola.  I was coming up behind Michael Schumacher,
and Nick Heidfeld in my Ferrari, and didn't quite get on the brakes quick
enough for the next corner.  I bumped wheels with Schuey, and we both spun.
Schumacher spun off the track, and I was spinning on the track when someone
T-boned me.  Next thing I knew the car did about 4 barrel rolls down the track,
way cool!!!!  Only bad part was that it was during practice, and the silly
replay thing doesnt seem to record during practice.  : (

It doesn't record practice?  How the heck do you check your racing lines to
improve?  That sucks if you have to run a race everytime...  Checking your
replay during practice is a great learning tool.
