N4 Crashes all the time!

by John » Sat, 07 Apr 2001 13:52:46

I have a brand new AMD 1Ghz (B) with a GeForce 2 DDR 64mb card. I am using
the on board audio (AC 97 Audio controller) on the ASUS A7V133 motherboard.
I have a Logitech USB Force Feedback wheel. Whenever I play N4 online the
game eventually locks up and then reboots while racing. I tried switching
between OpenGL and DirectX TnL HAL and both do the same thing. Anyone have
any ideas what is causing the lock up or has anyone else had similar
problems?

Thanks,
John

Hi!

N4 freezed my computer until I found out that soundcard (SB Live!) and NIC
(some Realtek-thingy) shared the same interrupt (IRQ 11). Setting the
interrupt for the NIC manually to IRQ 4 in the BIOS solved the problem for
me.
I suggest that you get the program PCIList from http://www.entechtaiwan.com.
It's free and will list all PCI-devices with their used interrupts so you
can see which device shares which interrupt. Although PCI-compliance
includes interrupt-sharing, some cards seem to be more compatible than
others ;).
