LWFF, F1 2002, WinXP - no go?

LWFF, F1 2002, WinXP - no go?

Why does this combination have problems with force feedback?  Whenever I
enable FF in the game, I lose about 30-40% of my frame-rate.  I tried
connecting a friend's MOMO and it didn't suffer from the problem.  I've got
WinME on a second partition and it runs the game fine - with or without FF.
Major PITA switching between 2 OS's though......

Anyone else using this combination of hardware/software?

Do you have the newest Logitech drivers?
I'm not sure how XP handles Direct X stuff, but I haven't seen too many
complaints about FF killing the framerates...
Any XP users with a LWFF?

I'm using 4.11c but 3.62 also showed the problem...

I"m using a Logi FF GP wheel in XP on F1 2002 & it's works fine. XP did
require a update from Logi though

<sigh>
I knew I was going to get a response from a LWFFGP owner...they use a
totally different firmware from the LWFF - the GP has a similar firmware to
the MOMO.  Thanks anyway.  It seems I'm the only person on the planet who
uses this combination..

Damien, you are not alone.  This happens to me in F12001 and 2002.  The
first time I got F12001 running under XP, I didn't have my LWFF wheel
connected and was driving with the keyboard (just to make sure the game was
working) and my frame rates in 1600x1200x16 were in the 90's.  As soon as I
hooked my wheel up, it cut the frame rates almost in half.  Fortunately, I
have a dual boot to Win98 SE (where this problem does not occur at all) so I
have a backup plan but you're right, it's a pain.  Sorry I don't have a
solution.

System specs:
Athlon 1.33
Geforce 3 original flava (23.11's  -28.32's crash my system)
512MB DDR
LWFF (4.11c drivers)

Thanks for that Marty, I guess I really wanted confirmation that it wasn't a
problem with my wheel or PC.  I'm since told that the original LWFF is not
officially supported by Logitech under Windows XP.  Maybe time for one of
those new *** MOMOs.

Could be a problem with the BIOS not fully supporting (or at least updated).
Have you looked into an update in that area?

I have an Asus A7V with the latest BIOS and 4-in-1's so that isn't the
problem.  I think the LWFF is just starting to be a little too old tech for
XP unfortunately.  I guess it's getting close to Momo time.

Sounds like a perfectly good, logical reason.  8-)

I think what Martin was alluding to is that the LWFF was designed to be
compatible with the serial port when it was released - now that backward
compatibility is hampering it - much like backward compatibility hampers
Windows. ; )

Guys I also have a MS wheel & XP does not support the software that came
with the wheel.......They don't support their own hardware, if I wish to use
the software I have to go back to 98/ME......not bad Microsoft  going
backwards.......lol

Any game port controller isn't going to be compatible with Windows XP except
for basic functions.  The controller industry about three years ago went to
USB devices, and most manufacturers don't even support the older controllers
now.  It isn't just Microsoft.  Everyone wants you to buy their USB
controllers now.  8-)
