Best Hardware for GPL

I'm upgrading my system, actually, building a new tower, and was wondering
what the best hardware for GPL would be, especially since I'm thinking of
using a Intel Celeron 500. What is my best bet for video card?

If you reply though my email address, please remove the NOSPAM after the
address.

If you love GPL then you've got to go for a voodoo3. Even the 2000pci
version gives the tnt2 ultra a right pasting. I have both cards, and the
tnt2 is now just an ornament. Shame as it cost over double what I paid for
the voodoo3.

Hope this helps

See if you can afford the Asus K7M mainboard with the AMD Athlon K7 500mhz
cpu, PDPI L4 game card, and 3dfx V3000.  This system works really well.  GPL
with everything on and full details at 1024 x768 with 35fps is my
experience.

A celeron 500 or better is plenty. One of the new Abit motherboards would be
good, and a Voodoo 3 3000, or if you have the money, a 3500.  Try getting a
128 megs of memory, PC 133 would be best for stability and future upgrading.
The Voodoo 3500 is faster than the 3000, but it costs about $195 compared to
$110, and there may soon be a Voodoo 4 or 5 that you'll want.  I'm running a

36 frames  per second  through most of a race at 1280 x 1024, but the
drivers are unstable and the game will crash every couple  hours. That's why
a Voodoo is better for this game (and most games).

For GPL,
Best processor AMD Athlon (any speed, 500 is fast enough)
Best video card Voodoo 3, any of them, 2000, 3000, or 3500. Any of them are
fast enough, espically with an Athlon.

All Voodoo cards are made by 3Dfx. They bought out STB, so you'll see them
marketed as STB or 3Dfx.

[This followup was posted to rec.autos.simulators and a copy was sent to
the cited author.]

Essentially, the more processing power at your disposal and the faster
your graphics card, the better, especially for a high-requirement sim
like Grand Prix Legends.

You didn't mention what budget you're under, so it's a little difficult
to advise on the hardware. If you could let me know I'll be able to give
you a few details and prices that might be suitable to your needs.
