Help: Wheel setup for racing sims

by Philste » Wed, 12 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I recently bought a TM Sprint wheel and already I'm having problems with
it (bought 2 weeks ago). Wheel is well calibrated when I start racing,
but after about 40 laps (shorter, depending on the track), the
calibration goes south and the cars all over the place. Never happened
with other wheels before. I plug the TM in my SB PCI 128.

In the windows joystick properties section, there's a box called "poll
interrupts enable". Should I leave this checked or unchecked? I remember
reading about this a while back. This might help me with this problem.

Any (smart and useful) comments would be welcome.

Smart and useful is subjective, but here goes.  The box should be unchecked.
From what I've read, checking it will only tax your cpu more.  This might
not solve your problem though.  Could be that the SB is misinterpreting the
data that is being generated by your wheel.  The best solution for this
situation is a PDPI L4 digital game card.  Has an "onboard cpu" which will
poll the wheel, interpret the results, and forward on all necessary info to
your CPU.  Thus the CPU is no longer tied up with your gameport and wheel.
Hopefully this will eliminate calibration problems and give you a few more
frames/sec to boot.

I recently purchased a SRC wheel and have had many of the same
problems/questions.  I plan on picking up a PDPI as soon as I can get their
web site working (don't have the address) or I pick up the phone and speak
to one of those human things that existed before the dawn of the internet.

Could someone follow this up with the URL for PDPI?  Should be
http://pdpi.net but it's not working.

Regarding gamecards: TM does the ACM card and CH products the Gamecard 3
auto, yet nobody talks about them. It's all about PDPI. I also read
numerous post on here that people ordered that card and never got it.

I finally made the phone call and placed an order.  I was told Act Labs will
be shipping the PDPI cards next week (around the 20th).  I guess this will
relieve of PDPI of shipping the cards themselves and may help in turn around
time.

The PDPI is a full digital card which should be able to do a better job than
the ACM and CH products.   At least, that's the theory.
