Last week I took delivery of my new wheel, A BRD Sim Pro & Pedals (Awesome
wheel BTW!) and got nothing but earache from the 'better half' about the
cost for a 'toy'. her words not mine.
To celebrate it's arrival I decided to put GPL on the back burner and bought
NASCAR Racing Season 2002 as I wanted some variety, well last night my beter
half asked me if the wheel "actually controlled the car on screen or just
looked the part" (I kid you not) - so I decided to see if I could peak her
interest up just enough to stop the odd 'boys toys' comments and sat her
down with NRS2002, with an easy setup at Watkins Glen.
First lap round - 5m46s, with an average of 30-40 mph down the straights,
take in mind that she cannot drive, and has taken a grand total of 3 driving
lessons in the last 7 years.
2nd time around & shes down to 3m56s, laps of 3m46s, 3m43s, 2m59s, 2m42s and
finally 2m 36secs.
She was hooked, I could not get back on the PC for HOURS, a good thing in
that she has expressed a newfound respect for my 'toy' and simracing hobby,
a bad thing as that gives ME less track time (I kid, I'm not that selfish
) )
All in all a good week, a spanking new wheel, a new sim to master (or be
humbled by, depending on the day) and a partner who 'seems' to have caught a
small amount of the bug from me, in fact the last thing she said last night
as she came of the PC was:
"I'll be kicking your ass in no time!"
Lifes Good :)
