GPL New Install Problems

by Tom Pabs » Fri, 29 Jun 2001 22:42:28

Hi Guys....

I don't ever recall having this problem.....but then its been a few ions
since installing GPL from the fresh, original CD.

Problem:  During the installation process, I get an error message when GPL
is attempting to install "ActiveMovie" as follows:

"The version of ActiveMovie you have is newer than the version attempting to
be installed.  GPL can not update a newer version of ActiveMovie.  Please
uninstall ActiveMovie from your system and rerun GPL setup."   Or, something
close to that.  (this is not a joke)  Then, the installation of GPL stops.
When I go into GPL, everything appears normal until attempting to enter a
race track....where the following error message is displayed:  "Can not
initialize Replay system."

What the hell is ActiveMovie anyway.....there's nothing in the Windows
Add/Remove list that says, "ActiveMovie?"  What's the fix for this?

Tom

PS:  Ops system is Windows98SE, with DX8.0

I always get that message when installing GPL, just click ok and it works.
Well, at least it does for me.
I don't remember it asking to uninstall the existing activemovie though.

"yes"...eons is correct.  Damn "Spell Checker".......didn't it read the
sentence I wrote and figure out the correct context of the word?  I hate it
when programs don't work correctly....don't you?

You don't even need to do a proper install.  Just copy the gpl folder off
the CD and create a shortcut to gpl.exe.

Two molecules are sitting at a bar, drinking. One says to the
other "You look glum, what happened to you?". The other answers
"I lost an electron today...". "Are you sure?". "Positive".

Phil,

I think you *do* need to do a proper install...at least, if you haven't
installed the game on the same drive before.  The install writes to the
Registry, and if memory serves, the game won't even start, much less run, if
you haven't installed GPL at least once before.  (I'm not sure if the
Uninstall erases the Registry entries.  The usual case is when an old GPL
install gets screwed up, in which case you can just delete it and copy the
files from the CD.  Don't forget to reset the attributes, tho!)

Not necessary, at least in MY experience.  I've re-formatted drives, then
simply copied the GPL directory to the system  Works fine...

after GPL launch.
