66 laps 100% AI strength no yellows...

I'm not sure this qualifies as an 'improvement': the AI
cars now wander all over the track.  Despite this, they
still don't seem very adroit at passing-in other words they
seem to wander around randomly as opposed to a move
made in order to facilitate a pass.
Because they don't want to run much in a draft train,
I was able to lap all but 7 other cars by race end.  Part
of this was undoubtedly due to a series of fender-benders
in the pits (typical situation: 2 cars come in to pit, one
drops low to pit first, going a*** one of them clips
car exiting his pit, chaos ensues), but part of it was I
was able to run 2-3 MPH faster (per lap) in my draft
than the AI cars (the good ones-Rusty, Jarrett, Bobby
Labonte etc.) because I was smart enough not to wander
in and out of the draft all the time.
Plus they didn't fix the problem with the AI pitting 5-10
laps too soon at 'Dega: I had tweaked my old track.ini
file as follows (guess I'll have to put them back):

Fuel Use:             93 down from 95
Left Tire Wear:    16 down from 19
Right Tire Wear:   23 down from 27

Plus to make it any sort of a challenge at all I will also
have to bump the AI strength back up to 105-6%.  I
dunno if the other tracks exhibit this kind of behavior
but all in all a very mixed bag at best on the AI end of
things, and it obviously needs a lot more work...

speed running very low down the straights.  The replay
interface has the driver's car number next to their name.
I'm sure there are quite a number of other mostly minor
tweaks.

Have you pulled your plate off ?

No (the top of my message says "AI strength 100%).
But if I run a 106% race this weekend I wouldn't be
surprised, given that the cars hardly stay in the draft
anymore, and they are still rather crappy at passing
lapped cars...

Draft or not, you are not any faster than they are when OUT of the draft.
Lapping the field is what I don't understand, and it makes me wonder if
there is something wrong with your installation to be able to do that in
such a short period of time.

On _my_ system, at those same settings, If I drop out of, or lose the draft,
I'm toast.  There's NO way I'm ever gonna lap one car much less the majority
of the field.

What usually happens is that I lose the main pack when we start
hitting lapped cars.  The field starts getting mixed up, lead lap cars
get stuck behind the slowpokes, the draft slows, I hook up with 2-3
fairly fast lapped cars (sometimes former leaders who were victims of
unscheduled pitstops), and start pulling away...
