GPL is freezing with PDPI card

by Cliff Brow » Sat, 10 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Greetings All,

Last Christmas my wife got me a new steering wheel.  When she ordered
it, they suggested also getting a PDPI L4 card to go with it, which she got
me for my birthday.  I finally got the card and installed it yesterday.
Everything thing seems ok except that GPL now locks up after about half a
lap.  The game loads ok, the wheel configures, and the car drives just as
normal until the lock up.  The game was working fine before I installed the
PDPI card.  For comparison, I tried Nascar 3 and DTR, both of which worked
fine (better than before in fact).  After having GPL on my hard drive for
almost a year and a half, I have recently began playing it again and gotten
really ***ed so I really want to get this working again.  Here are my
system specs:
P2 450
16 MB TNT and 12 MB Voodoo2 video cards
Turtle Beach Montego2 sound card

Thank you for any and all help,
Cliff

GPL is freezing with PDPI card

I also recently installed a PDPI L4.  If you're no longer using the gameport
on your Montego, I would suggest disabling it.  You should be able to do
this by right clicking on "My Computer", select the Device Manager tab, then
find your old game port under one of the branches.  Select it, click the
Properties button at the bottom of  dialog, and select "Disable in this
hardware profile".

One other thing to check is that you're using the PDPI driver.  On the Game
Control control panel applet, select the Advanced tab, and select the PDPI
driver in the drop down box at the bottom of the dialog.

If you've done all this and are still having problems, then I'd try removing
the sound card and try playing GPL without it.  See if you're still having
problems.  If so, then I have no idea.  Reinstall windows? :)
