Curious if anyone is having success with the Pacific Digital Peripherals
Inc. Lightning 4 digital game card.
I am concerned about compatibility with a SB live! value installed, using

online ***/racing, yada yada yada.

any thoughts?

Why would you want a game card when you have the SB Live?
I find the gameport on the Live to be exceptional, and very smooth. I'm not
sure you would gain enough to warrant the added expense.

I use one with SB 16, TSW Formula, 200 MMX, Hercules Thriller, CL Voodoo
2 SLI. It works quite well.

What controller are you using?  Many have found the game port on the Live!
(me included) to be less than stellar.

Marc.

Hey Don,

I find my wheel/joysticks  very smooth.  It's a matter of taking the
controller polling load off the CPU, and letting the PDPI L4 gamecard
handle all the polling and calculations on board, freeing up the CPU to
process game  code.   I have read three reviews that all claim about 40%
increase in fps using this  gameport.  Also, this gamecard eliminates the
problem of "polling with interrupts enabled/disabled" for online
racing/***.  So,  I want that advantage.
visit the PDPI website, then search Reviewfinders, and tell me what you
think.

Remember.... N2 is not coded to use it in 'digital mode'. There is a
switch on rear that you need to 'flip' for N2. N2 was the only game that
needed that flipped (that I tested). GPL, GP2, F1RS, RS2, MTM, MTM2,
NR99...were all fine. NOTE: NROS works fine with digital mode as does
NR99.

For $85 you could pick up an MX300 which has a tremendous DIGITAL game port and
great sound as well.  I cannot believe how rock solid (no spikes, drifting,
etc.) all my controllers are, before I thought it was bad pots!  Now TSW2 and
the rest smooooooth.  No need for a PDPI.

The PDPI does let you have four (4) controllers connected at one time and
switch between them with one mouse click. Even lets me have my CH Pro
Throttle connected to the port and keyboard along with all my other devices.

True. Unless one of your controllers are digital, such as the MS FF
Wheel, which won't work with the PDPI.. And I still have one PDPI for
sale!

The CPU loading issue is really a big issue -- for me, it was like I'd
done a complete CPU upgrade when I dropped in my PDPI L4 card.  Frame
rates increased a surprising amount on my K6-266 system.  I'd highly
recommend this card (and I'm working on a review now, so stay tuned).

Just plug your Digital Game pad into port #1 and flip the Legacy switch on
the back of the PDPI. Works for me.

True. I have noticed about 5-6fps gain with PDPI in GPL on my PII 266, 32MB,
Voodoo2
