I read a review of 3d cards at Computer Games Online.  It didn't test a
Diamond Monster 3d, but they did test the pure 3d and said it had the
best or equal to the best scores.  What is your recomendation?  Allot of
people have said Diamond, but I am waiting.  Also what "chipset" do they
use?  Doesn't the orchid use a voodo chipset?  I have heard this has
some driver problems.  What is the fastest card with the best support?
I am not really looking at bundled software, because I just want it for
cpr right now.  Thanks

Hi, I have a Pure3D and love it. It's a few bucks less than Monster and has
2 more megs of texture mem and a TV out. Monster, Pure3D and Orchid all
use Voodoo's 3DFX chipset- the greatest *** purchase you can make (until
voodoo2 is here). If you are buying it just for CART, forget it. The worst 3D
acceleration implementation I have ever seen. Framerate is no better than
software mode, but the graphics do look a little better. If they had taken
their time and done a ground up Glide, it would be awesome. Just look at pod
as an example.

Well I am primarily buying it for cpr, but I was expecting a general
upgrade on most of my games.  Do the two megs of texture ram help that
much now?  Are all the cards the same speed in general?  And like I said
does Pure3d have any tech support?  Including updated drivers.

I have the Pure 3D and the Monster 3D and they both are great cards.
The Pure 3D has a TV out option so that I can display my games on my
32in. Toshiba TV and it works great, especially when using the S-Video
jack on the TV. The extra 2mb will help somewhat, I believe it depends
on the game. Most new games will take advantage of it, however, some
older 3DFX games like Carmageddon will not run without some tweaking
to the environment variables. I can tell you that Quake 2(OpenGL) and
Jedi Knight(Direct 3D) both perform great. However, as far as CART
Precision Racing(CPR) and Ubisoft's Formaula 1 Racing, the clear
winner as far as 3D acceleration is concerned is F1 Racing. I have a
P166 32mb Ram, Pure 3D, and even with 3D acceleration I must turn off
most of the details(including***pit) to get a decent frame rate in
CPR, however, F1 Racing runs just great with almost all details and
full field of cars. So at least in the current versions of these
games(they are working on a patch for CPR), F1 Racing is the clear
winner in the 3D acceleration department.

I have alot of games that rock with my Pure3D(Quake 2, G-Police, Ubisoft's
F1 Racing, Need For Speed IISE, Jedi Knight, MotoRacer, POD, Extreme
Assualt, Tomb Raider, Jet Fighter III, Longbow 2, etc.) but CPR is
definitely not one of them. What type of machine are you running? I have a
P166 32MB, Pure 3D and CPR is by far the worst performer of all the 3D
accelerated games I own.

All the cards you mention are voodoo. The pure 3D is the best with
it's 4 megs of texture memory and TV out. Plus Canopus have a brilliant
rep for driver support from what I read.
