CPR and Pure 3D

I've had CPR since it hit the shelves in November and have to say I was less
than impressed. I tried both patches and with my 233 MMX, 64 RAM and
MilleniumII with M3d add on card, CPR wouldn't run at all. Yesterday I ejected
the M3d and installed a Pure 3d card. The difference is like night and day.
Frame rate jumped from 10-14 to 23-30. I have all graphics on except mirror
textures, sky and steering wheel. This afternoon I downloaded the setups from
the "unofficial" CPR Headquarters, and the car is much more driveable, not so
"darty". The AI is still a joke, but hot laps are a lot of fun. I think I may
keep this thing after all!

CPR and Pure 3D

I have a Pure 3D and P166 classic w/ 32MB ram. I have the patch for CPR and
it still runs choppy even when I cut out a lot of detail. Could it possibly
be the memory? In Quake 2, I have been unable to get decent frame rates, as
well. In fact, I get the exact same results in frame rate tests with CPR
and Quake 2 on another P166, 32mb setup that has a Diamond Monster 3D as
opossed to the Pure 3D. It was suggested to me in a Quake newsgroup that
the Pure 3D would not show its advantages without more system memory. Does
anyone know if this sounds logical? I have my Pure 3D overclocked to 57,
and the Monster 3D is at 54 and there are no differences in frame rate
tests with CPR or Quake/Quake2. Any info or insight would be greatly
appreciated.

P.S. I have done lots of frame rate testing on CPR with all sorts of
different detail settings and I have found that turning off sky really does
not help increase performance. Unlike GP2 where it makes a huge difference.

I have a P-133, Pure3D, with 32 MB of memory.  I don't think your problem is
with memory.  As far as I know, CPR doesn't use over 32 MB of memory so
adding more won't do anything.  Do you notice your disk light flashing any
after the first lap?  What motherboard are you using?  Try checking your PCI
settings in BIOS.  Make sure you don't turn off PCI bursting.  Also, make
sure that you have "polling for interrupts" off for your controller.

When you say choppy, do you mean with other cars on the track or just
hotlapping.  When hoplapping on my system, I get between 22-30 fps without
sky and track side objects.  Also, I set the view ahead to 15, which has a
major impact on performance.  Of course, I haven't played CPR since getting
F1RS about 3 weeks ago.  Greater than 30 fps with all details on.
