HELP Graphics Card Question: Part 2

by Justin Chenie » Sun, 04 Mar 2001 03:33:06

Thanks for everyone's advice on the GeForce2 cards. In looking at my
system:
PIII 650
64mg ram
Diamond Stealth S540 III
Asus P3B-F Motherboard

I realized that my motherboard is only AGP 1x 2x compatible. The spec's
on the GeForce 2 cards show they are AGP 4x. Does this mean I'm S.O.L.
in wanting to upgrade my video card without also upgrading my
motherboard?

Thanks in advance
Justin

I don't believe the GeForce2 requires AGP 4x.  Everything I've read
suggests that the performance improvement of AGP 2x over 1x is small,
and the improvement of 4x over 2x is negligible.

Just to be sure, you should ask in alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus or
ask Asus support.
