Hello all GP2 fan,here's a result that might be of interest.
I have done some extensive research yesterday night,to try to
find how GP2 is manipulating (calculating) REAL TIME (my own stop watch)
vs ESTIMATE TIME (by the program) in concordance to PROCESSOR OCCUPANCY.
1st, i have to mention that i'm using a 486dx4-100 (will upgrade to P166
next weekend),so result might ?? be different on faster machine (i will
update this post when i'll have my pentium).
So here's the way i've done my test.
1st- used one circuit only (HOCKENHEIM) in practice mode (VIEWER ONLY-->
didn't chose any driver,just viewed AI car in PRO level)
2nd I used different Frame rate vs Graphic detail VS PROCESSOR OCCUPENCY
- lowest F/R used:8.1
-highest F/R used:23.2
3nd Tried test in VGA and SVGA
4th In 100% processor occupancy test(i will write P/O) i tried to keep
TRACKSIDE OBJECT ON and MEDIUM LEVEL.
5th Since i was viewing only ,the game was choosing for me different
drivers (so lap time were different on each test session)
NOTE: % ACCURACY is calculate REAL TIME / ESTIMATE TIME ,since you'll
see over 100%,just view as % of ESTIMATE TIME.
SO HERE'S my RESULT:

SO HERE'S MY CONCLUSION for this test:
AT 100 % PROCESSOR OCCUPANCY (independant of FRAME RATE) ESTIMATE TIME
match REAL TIME pretty close.
UNDER 100 % P/O (again independant of F/R) REAL TIME is LOWER than
ESTIMATE TIME (93-95%)
OVER 100 % P/O seems that my % ACCURACY (read % of ESTIMATE TIME)
is DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL. I mean if 150% P/O -> REAL TIME will be
150% ( X 1.5) of ESTIMATE TIME.
*** Also here's what i have found:
When doing this test,i've tried with 1 hotlap viewed.What i have done
is 1st keeping the graphic level as the original lap (when made) and
i've CHANGED FRAME RATE (from 8.1 to 23.2) and my P/O DIDN'T CHANGED.
When i tried with more GRAPHIC DETAIL and LESS F/R to try to keep
P/O close to 100 %,again while viewing HOTLAP the ACTUAL P/O went VERY
HIGH.
So it seem that when viewing a hotlap WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGE the
P/O is the amount of GRAPHIC DETAIL not F/R. This is DEPENDANT of
what you actually used (GRAPHIC DETAIL) when you've done the hotlap.
ex:I have done a hotlap with 18.0 F/R and some GRAPHIC DETAIL to keep
P/O close to 100% (average of complete lap),and i viewed the same lap
with per example F/R at 13.2 and more GRAPHIC DETAIL than original
the P/O was way over 100%. In an actual practice i can still keep
P/O close to 100% with that setup,then when i view with LESS GRAPHIC
DETAIL my P/O was way under 100% even if F/R is raised!
