USB or Serial for my LWFF??

USB or Serial for my LWFF??

by Doug » Thu, 23 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I understand that USB moves data faster through its port?  Thus you would
want to plug it into a USB. Would this give you better framerate and better
steering response compared to plugging the Wheel into a serial port?  Then
again.. the serial port is the actual cable from the Wheel, with only a
serial to USB connector attachment, so alas it still ends up going through
the serial cable.

Any one notice a difference?

I have only used USB and would suggest only using that.

Rigs, I have news for you. After using the serial port for some weeks, I
have now switched to USB (had to upgrade to W98 for that). The
difference is amazing! LWFF through the USB port is much more accurate.
It's easier to place the car on the track, to modulate (trail) brake and
gas. It's even better than a T2 on the old gameport. And even better
still: when online the controls don't seem to suffer anymore when you
hit a dip in frame rate. The cars keeps responding to inputs.

Hmmm, I might just have to eat my words...(ouch!) I tried mine under USB
again just for kicks and actually noticed a slight difference
(downplaying it for my sake ;) in N3. I have yet to try Viper Racing or
GPL...Maybe there is one, but I don't think it's a very big difference -
maybe depending on your system specs? Who knows, who cares? Just
enjoy...PEACE!
