Talladega on ICR2 - Restrictor Plate???

Talladega on ICR2 - Restrictor Plate???

by Greg Salte » Tue, 24 Mar 1998 04:00:00

So I had Talladega off my NASCAR CD converted to IndyCar Racing II, and gave
it a spin. Worked fine, except for one thing... I definately, definately am
running my IndyCar with a restrictor plate! I can't get the thing to go over
185 or so, even on the back straight. It's like I don't have any more
horsepower. Playing with the setups, or using other setups, doesn't help at
all.

Other tracks I've tried so far (like C***te and Atlanta) work dandy, and
I can zip around 230's and faster.

Is there some sort of setting in one of the files that I can change to turn
off this "restrictor plate"?

Thanks

open the talladega.txt file...look for this line

SPDWY 0 42 45
                |
-change the 0 to a 1, save file, restart sim, reset 6th
gear, rock.

Isn't it a 1 to a 0 that removes the plate ?  /TomH

Is this Talladega track coming from the original NASCAR (N1) or N2? I
have the one from N1 converted by Gerhard Lingenberg, and the speeds
are above 250 mph.

Tried it this afternoon just for kicks.  Found that changing the '1' to
a '0' slows ya down 10-15 mph.  Full tank of fuel, was turning 240mph
laps.  Usually run 250-255.  You know what else could be--->They give
you 3 different *.txt files when its first converted, don't they?  Seems
I recall that, it has been a while.  The one you want I think was called
talfast.txt. Make sure to change it to Taladega.txt & go crankin.

 Hope this helps!

In ICR2, the 1 or 0 in the SPDWY specifies the wings for the car
(speedway vs. road).  Does this really apply to the physics of the car
on the track or just the "graphics"?

Well, my results were FAR more dramatic. Before the change, my best lap at
Talladega was 185, and my highest speed on the backstretch was 190 or so.
Made the switch, and my WARMUP lap was 197!!! Did a few more laps at 225.
Then I blew my engine (first time ever!).

Note, this is with the default settings. I expect my speeds will increase
even more once I play in the garage a while.

So, what should I do with 6th gear to prevent my engine from blowing, but
still get good speed. Anyone?

(btw, this is ICR2, if that wasn't clear).

Go 2 clicks taller then run some laps .See if it blows again. Depending on
whether you are using 6th as a cruise gear you should first set up 5th as I
stated above and then make 6th slightly taller ( for fuel conservation ).

Try a sixth gear around 4.20-4.30.  Should get ya in the ballpark, at
least.  And remember---->NO WINGS (3.00) ;^)
