ICRNAS Racing Series
Press Release
Provo, UTAH 26 July 1994
The upcoming Brickyard 400 will be run without restrictor plates,
a spokesman for ICRNAS reported early today.
The restrictor plate rule for the series currently limits engine
power for safety and competitiveness. The rule currently applies to the
superspeedways on the ICRNAS schedule, namely Michigan International
Speedway and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
However, following complaints from drivers and teams about the
detrimental effects to their cars that the plates caused, ICRNAS director
Tony Johns announced the change in the rules.
"We feel that the race will still be competitive without the
plates, and we do not forsee any difficulties with the rule change,"
Johns stated in a press conference earlier this morning.
Of the six races on the ICRNAS schedule, three races fell under
the restrictor plate rule: this week's GM Goodwrench 400, the Brickyard
400, and the season-ending Miller Genuine Draft 500. ICRNAS confirmed
that restrictor plates will still be used at the season finale in Michigan.
