SCGT? What options you guys running?

by BlackVa » Mon, 17 May 1999 04:00:00

Just got this game and im digging it so far but wanted to know what options you
guys are running as far as fuel and tire rate and speed compensation. Also how
can you tell how much fuel you have left. I guess i got spoiled with nascar
showing me how many laps i had left in the tank. A spotter would have been cool
in the game. Also is it just me or does driving with the dashboard decrease the
framerate drastically. I know it normally should because of the extra graphics
but i like the sense of speed with out it on. Usually i race all my sims with
***pits but this reminds me of nascar revolution. One thing i like is letting
my teammate finish a race. I like to race marathons and sit back and see how he
does although dissapointing sometimes. Anyways sorry for rambling

I've been running career mode.   There, fuel/tire rate is automatically set.
I believe by the length race you choose.  I choose the shortest races, and the
fuel rate is set to 4x.

Speed compensation slows AI cars in front of you, speeds up those behind.
Good for close competition, but "unrealistic".  I leave it off.

You really can't tell precisely.  The arcade-like info block shows color bars,
the dash shows a fuel gauge.  Best bet is to run in practice with a known load
and see how long it lasts.  At the 4x rate, fuel is used at about 2 gal/lap at
Lime Rock.

I don't notice it with the dash, but the mirrors result in a huge fps hit,
especially if with the little frame around it (why??).

Same.

I'm in career mode, using soft tires and 5 gallons of fuel for
qualifying. They aren't automatic, you're just using the defaults.
You change them in the garage. Just remember to change it back when
you switch to race, or you'll be sitting on the starting line with 5
gallons fuel.

I didn't really notice the frame rate hit with the dash either, on a
relatively meager spec system -K6-2/333, RivaTnT, Voodoo2.
I like the look of the game much better in D3D, so I've been using the
Riva instead of the Voodoo.
I switch around, but I use the external view a lot. I leave the
mirrors off in any case.

I was referring to the multiplier for fuel and tire consumption.  That, I'm
pretty sure, is set automatically in career mode.  You can change it in quick
race mode.  As to fuel load, yes, that is available from the garage.  And yes,
I sometimes forget to raise it back up for the race :-(

Apologies, David. I re-read your message and your comments were
perfectly clear. Somehow I mis-interpreted them.

I kind of wish SCGT split the race/qualifying setups like N2 does.
That way you have your setups without remembering to swap them.
