Joystick and/or port prob with ICR

by HW.. » Wed, 03 Aug 1994 19:42:07

When I first bought ICR several weeks ago, I ran my cheap joystick, Quickshot
Warrior 5, on the sound board port.  Once I decided to see how keyboard play
compared to joystick play.  My speeds jumped dramatically.  With the keyboard
I could hit 160 mph at Long Beach and 230+mph at Michigan.  With the joystick
I was only reaching 140 mph and 210 mph respectively.

I switched the joystick to the port which was original equipment on my computer
.  The top speeds equaled or exceeded the ones reached with the keyboard.
However, yesterday my speeds suddenly dropped again to the old, slow levels.
I've tried a number of things, reconfiguring ICR, switch ports, etc. but nothin
g works.  The keyboard still produces the fast speeds, though.

Is this a problem with the ports or the joystick?  Any suggestions for a good,
inexpensive joystick?  Thrustmaster is NOT an option.

Thanks

Quickshot.  Groan.

First, make sure there is no conflict in game ports (e.g. the sound card
game port is disabled when you are using the system's game port.)  I
doubt it's a problem

If you consider around $40 inexpensive, the CH FlightStick is a good
choice for most simulators.  If your budget runs somewhere below that,
my advice is to go to a computer store and try out joysticks for
yourself.
