Here's an idea for us GP2 nuts. Fill in below what specs you have for
your machine, including the resolution you run at, and the frame rate.

If we all do it - it'll take a minute each - we can see how similar
machines perform, and see what hardware is best.

Go on, fill it in and post here!

Hey JEB
If we ever get it in California i think its a great idea. Maybe we can
find the best video card this way.Hopefully i can answer next week.

Processor type and speed: Cyrix p-166+
RAM: 32 Mb
Video card: S3 trio 64V+
Video RAM: 2 Mb

Detail in VGA: You wouldn't care about VGA

Detail in SVGA: All graphics on exept sky. No texturing in the mirrors
and a couple of option off (Who cares about mirrors anyway? Eh? and
does ICR2 have mirror textures?)

Frame rate in SVGA: 21.3

Input controller used: Joystick

Sound card: A really ***one

Any brief comments on set-up:

Anybody who was wondering if they should buy a Cyrix chip and were
hearing things about it being slower with some games (it is a bit
slower with ICR2 and a pig with Quake) don't have to worry about GP2,
it's very good, it might even be faster than a Pentium (I can't be
sure about this).

Apart from the technical stuff, the game is really good and nobody who
buys the game will be disapointed (if he has a good computer of
course).

it looks a bit arcadish compared to ICR but you get used to it. The
only thing I don't really like is the wheel lock-up under braking and
losing traction under 1st and 2nd gear accelration. While probably
realistic, it's a bit too sensitive for joysticks. ( That's what I
feel for Monaco, where you're using 1st gear a lot. It's better for
other circuits)

Happy *** !!!!

> >Jep its an OK idea, but..

My mashine, says >25 frames to allmost any settings, and still the
framerate is very low when you pass smoke, large textured object ect. I
think you need occupancy way below 60-80 %, to run the game without any
drops in framerate. Still, here are the requested data.

Proc:Pentium 166
Ram:32 MB EDO
Video:Diamond V64/2MB
Sound:SB16
Input:Wingman
Settings:SVGA, no mirrors, only texture on track-side-objects,detail
mid.
Framerate says >25, but my guess is <15 when the going gets tough...

Processor occupancy is around 100-130%. When slipstreaming other cars the
game slows down slightly. Other tracks have more complex graphics and PO
is from ~120 up to 240% :( Monaco being the worst.

I think you have been misled here.....

SDRAM is on the motherboard and can only be communicated with via the
motherboard at 66Mhz. SDRAM will allow for higher motherboard speeds,
supporting 75-100Mhz speeds, but it won't go anywhere near 166Mhz.

SRAM (your cache ram) works at 166Mhz since it is part of the internal
circuit linking chipset, CPU and cache - SDRAM is a different thing
entirely. SRAM has access times measured as 10ns or less - this is
required for such huge speeds - SDRAM is nowhere near that speed, 40-
60ns typically.

Cheers!
John
