Is Thrustmaster WCS any use for racing sim ?

by TONY CHEU » Sun, 04 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Hello Folks,

I am interested in getting the TM WCS throttle (I have the PFCS stick btw) for my flight &
racing sim.  I am not sure if the WCS is any use in the racing sim (eg. TOCA, MSPR and
etc.).

If the case is yes, do I push the throttle for gas & pull it for the brake.
I am interested to know if anyone race with such setup.

Thanks.

You could use the buttons on the WCS and PCFS to toggle different
functions like in-race menus, roll-bar settings, pause, quit etc.
without having to touch the keyboard. I don't think that the throttle
action per se would  be useful in that it would be quite difficult to
acclerate as quickly as you would require in a race car game. But I
believe there are those who have tried and use it in this manner.
Actually I would have thought that the WCS prices must be really cheap
now. If not, may as well go for the TQS since there are extra hat
switches which will be oh-so-useful in LongBow II...

On another note, has anyone got the WCS to work with a GP1 wheel?

Is Thrustmaster WCS any use for racing sim ?

I try never to use my WCSII & FSCpro for driving anymore.  I broke too many springs on the
FCSpro.  I don't think you could configure the throttle to work for any of those games,  I'm
open to suggestions tho.  However you could use the throttle and stick to access the driving
menus.  I believe there is an old Nascar Racing 1 file included with the WCS files that lets
you choose items like wing settings and use the hat to scroll up or down.  and of course
scrolling through the F2 driver places etc.  You would configure the buttons on the WCS to
access the various F keys that control lap times, tire changing, weight jacking etc.  Then use
the hat to move up or down the options.  This means not having to take your eye off the road
while hunting for the proper F key or those dang < > keys.  However, as my pit crew will
attest, even scanning a Spoiler setting while approaching the end of a straight makes for
either a wheel and fender job, or having your engine compressed from 8 cylinders to 4.  Have
fun...Try a wheel.  You won't regret it.

(heck, I even tried using the T2 for the Wing Commander Demo...Gas was up..Brake was
down...didn't work very well hahar)
