NFS-HS Won't start anymore!

by 1 David McCullu » Mon, 15 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I have a clone (ASUS P2B) Piii-450 w/160 megs, SBlive card, Logitech FF
wheel, ATI Rage Fury (32 megs, 1024x768x16 bit) system running Win98se
w/directx7. This system used to run NFS-HS just fine, but now refuses to
start and instead gives me a Windows error message that says:

Abort message:
Exception caught!

CS=0000018F DS=00000197 ES=000000197 FS=000058E7 GS=00003616

and so on.

I have updated and reinstalled the video and sound card drivers, I have
reinstalled DX7, I have checked that all background apps are not running, I
have tried disabling win.ini, system.ini, and startup apps. I have
reinstalled NFS-HS.

EA support doesn't seem to have any ideas. Has anyone fixed this?

Have you added any new tracks or cars lately?

Nope. As I mentioned. I have reinstalled the whole damn game.

Thanks for the idea, though.

If you added a car and uninstalled the game and reinstalled the cars would
still be there

Try uninstalling then deleteing the NFS dir to remove any extra files and
then reinstalling

i had the same problem and it was a car I added, or if you had a car and it
is somewhere in a career mode and it has been removed then that could also
cause the error

Thanks very much for following up. I removed and then deleted the directory
and success!

After much trial and error, the problem is/was a Porsche 959 car.

Thanks again.
